SUBJECT: SCANIA - EGR valve blocked after long periods of storage (Error Code E003822-07 / DTC 5125)

Background:

SCANIA have noted that the EGR valves on their engines may become stuck after an extended period of storage
(>21 days).

If the EGR valve is stuck, the error code E003822-07 may appear on the machine gauge panel.

The SCANIA SDP-3 engine diagnostic tool will display DTC 5125.

The attached SCANIA TMI (Technical Market Information) document describes the procedure to be followed in
such case. It may also be applied as preventive maintenance on machines that are being stored for longer time.

EGR valve stuck in close position after long storage of the engine/machine
Background
After a long storage or transport of the engine/machine, rust can be build up on the surface between the butterfly
disk edge and the housing. The rust can cause the valve to be stuck in a close position. When this occurs this is
normally discovered by the DTC 5125 during start up.

Service solution

Manually force open the valve, according to work description.

Work description.

Follow the step below when the DTC 5125 occur or every 21’s day during storage to prevent the valve from getting
stuck.

1. Break the valve lose by rotating the valve horizontally, clockwise through the lever. You only need to move it
shortly to remove the rusty edge locking the valve. The force required to break the valve loose is up to
approximately 70Nm.
2. Repeat this action a few times until the valve moves easy.
