KAPPA-Workstation (KW) v5.

30 Installation

This document gives information about the KAPPA-Workstation installation and is organized as follows:

 Section 1 lists the minimum and recommended hardware requirements

 Section 2 details the different installation steps
 Section 3 deals with the software protection settings
 Section 4 relates to the Sentinel USB driver installation
 Section 5 refers to the silent installation

Major release and intermediate upgrade

As a KAPPA user, you will be dealing with two distinct types of product distributions: major releases and
intermediate upgrades. A major release corresponds to a significant amount of improvements for a particular
software, both in terms of technical content and software. Examples of major releases are KAPPA-Workstation
v5.30, and Emeraude v5.30. Each release in turn has its own evolution, mirrored by a number of intermediate
upgrades for minor additions and bug fixes. Upgrades are identified by two-digit numbers, appended on the
release name, e.g. KW v5.30.03 or Emeraude v5.30.01. Installing the first version of a given release is like
installing a brand new product. Installing an upgrade of an already installed release will upgrade the installation
and replace the previous contents.

1. Hardware requirements
Minimum configuration:
 A computer that runs a target OS can run KAPPA-Workstation. As a reminder KW is validated on the
following x64 OS versions: Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.
 The KW installation is about 4GB so at least this amount should be free.
 KW is designed to work in High resolution, the absolute minimum being 1024x768.
 The minimum Graphics card for the 3D plot is 512 MB / OpenGL v3.2 or higher is required

Recommended configuration:
Processor clock frequency: A typical recommendation would be for a processor with a frequency higher than
2.6 GHz. But the actual performance will vary depending on the processor generation and the nominal
frequency is not always representative.
Number of cores: a number of operations are parallelized in KW: the computation of sensitivity coefficients in
the regression, the runs in sensitivity analyses, some gridding, etc. There are also some parallelized solvers
available optionally in the numerical simulations. Obviously the number of cores will affect the performances
of all these operations.

RAM: this is definitely important and the recommendation would be to run with 16 GB or above.
Disk type: There is no disk access other than reading / saving documents. A fast disk will not make KW faster.
Resolution: a resolution with at least 1080 vertical pixel is recommended for KW.
Graphics card: NVIDIA Quadro

2. Installation procedure
Unzip the installation package into a folder and run the SETUP.EXE program, so the installation program starts.

Please note that it may take a few seconds before the first installation dialog appears on your screen.

If not already installed, the InstallShield Wizard proposes the installation of the following pre-requisite:

- Microsoft .Net Framework 4.6.1 Full

A welcome and a license agreement screen are displayed. Accept the license conditions, and click on ‘Next’ to
continue.

Welcome screen License agreement

In the following dialog, you can select your protection type, but please note that if existing G4 license
settings are detected at this stage, they will be automatically retrieved and imported in KW.

Protection type

You can modify the path to your local license file by clicking on ‘Change’ and pointing to the required folder.

To run the software with a hard key protection, a driver needs to be installed on your computer. It should be
automatically installed provided you have selected ‘USB Sentinel protection’ and you have Administrator
privileges on your computer. If you have been given a Sentinel HL driverless USB dongle you do not require any
driver installation, you just need to plug the key to the computer so it is detected. Please do not connect your
hard key to your computer unless requested by the installation.

If the FlexLM server protection has been chosen, please specify the host name of your license server in the
following format: ‘@hostname’, or ‘port@hostname’. If unknown at the time of the installation, the server may
be specified later in the Licensing dialog.

The following dialog (below left) requires the name of the installation directory. The default location is
C:\Program Files\KAPPA\Workstation 5.30\. You can amend this path by clicking on ‘Change’ and pointing
to the required folder. Click on ‘Next’ to continue. The InstallShield Wizard will then be ready to install KAPPA
Workstation (below right). Upon confirmation, the installation is executed and the necessary files are copied
and decompressed.

Installation directory Installation preparation

WARNING: The final installation steps may take several minutes to complete. See screen below.
KAPPA-Workstation is a .Net application, also referred to as “Managed application”. A managed application
comes in Microsoft Intermediate Language (MSIL) that is interpreted at execution time by the .Net runtime
environment. NGen (aka Native Image Generator) is executed by the installation to convert the MSIL into
machine code, producing a code that executes much faster since the MSIL to machine code conversion does
not need to be done anymore. The conversion from MSIL to machine code is however machine specific and
this is why it must be executed at installation time.

At the end of the installation and provided you have specified that you will be using a FlexLM local license, if
no valid license file is found on your computer, you will be prompted to request a Demo license (below). If you
agree, the DemoLicenseRequestForm.exe tool will be executed so your computer identification is retrieved by
this program. Since this tool is copied in your installation folder you will be able to request a Demo license at
any time after installation.

Once the installation is successful, you will be notified and proposed to run KW.

Setup complete

WARNING: KW must be started with the shortcuts we create. If one tries to recreate a shortcut, then every
time KW is started it will go through a discovery step to find the connected modules. The shortcut we create
has a special instruction on the command line (-f namely) to skip the discovery because we do it once during
the installation.

3. View / edit your protection settings after KW installation
To successfully launch KW modules, a valid license needs to be detected at each module startup.

As previously indicated during the installation steps, please note that if existing G4 license settings are detected
at installation time, they will be automatically retrieved and configured in KW.

The Licensing dialog accessed clicking on the USB icon located at the bottom right of the KW launcher allows
to configure, view and edit your licenses.

In this dialog, you may:

 Define your licenses
 View your protection settings
 Rank your licenses
 Update your USB port dongle
 Define the path to the FlexLM license file
 Define the FlexLM license server

Please refer to the KW on-line help while in the Licensing dialog for more details.

4. Sentinel USB driver installation

If you need to manually install the Sentinel USB driver, please make sure you have Administrator privileges on
the computer.
Execute the HASPUserSetup.exe found by default in C:\ProgramData\KAPPA\Protection\Sentinel.
The Wizard will pop up, click on ‘Next’ until the installation is completed.

Note: To view this path you may need to activate the ‘Show hidden files, folders and drives’ option in Windows
Explorer > Organize > Folder and search options > View tab.

5. Silent installation
The new version of Installshield does not support the .iss file creation anymore.
The command line for performing a silent installation is:

setup.exe /S /v"/qn" /v"INSTALLDIR=\"C:\Program Files\KAPPA\Workstation 5.30\""

If no target directory is defined, KAPPA-Workstation will be installed in the default folder:

C:\Program Files\KAPPA\Workstation 5.30.

You may get further details from the Flexera software web site:

http://helpnet.flexerasoftware.com/installshield19helplib/helplibrary/IHelpSetup_EXECmdLine.htm

For network license configuration, you can set the license information using the ‘LicenseSettingsTool.exe’
program found in the application installation folder (by default in C:\Program Files\KAPPA\Workstation
5.30\Launcher\LicenseSettingsTool) and running the following command:

C:\Program Files\KAPPA\Workstation 5.30\Launcher\LicenseSettingsTool\LicenseSettingstool.exe -n @server

To uninstall KAPPA-Workstation silently, please run the following command line:

setup.exe /S /x /v"/qn"
