Objective of our English Project

Nowadays it is very important to know some science. We should know who were the
scientists who changed the history of humanity.

In this project, we have used different grammatical structures that we learned in class.
We have also used the vocabulary we learned in these last units.

We choose this theme because we believe that the legacy of knowledge that Thomas

THOMAS ALVA EDISON

Good evening, teacher and classmates, our character is Thomas Alva Edison. In this
project, each member describes a part of Thomas Edison's life and some of his
inventions.

LUIS: Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan. Milan is a

small town in Ohio (United States).
When Edison was seven years old, he emigrated to Port Huron
(Michigan) to look for a better future. When he was in Michigan, he
attended school for the first time. Edison was only for 3 months in
school. Edison's mother knew that he had no interest in school, so
he decided to teach him personally.

A few years later, in 1903, Edison patented the iron and nickel
battery. This battery helped companies a lot because it is longer
lasting and cheaper.

MARCO ANTONIO: When Edison was 12, he started earning money by selling
newspapers and food on a train. With the money he earned, he
bought science books and materials for his laboratory. When
Edison was 14, he saved the station chief's son from a disaster. In
gratitude, the father of the child taught him Morse code and
telegraphy. This is the fact that he could work as a telegraph
operator until he was 19 when worked on his own as an inventor.

In 1878, the carbon microphone was created by Thomas Alva

Edison, he designed the carbon microphone and patented it.

AGUINALDO When Edison was 21 years old, he patented his first invention. This
invention was an electric vote counter for the Congress. This
invention was a failure because nobody was interested in buying it.
In the year 1869, at the request of Western Union, Edison built a
printer to quote securities on the stock exchange. This invention
gave him a profit of $ 40,000. With the money he earned, he

 opened his own workshop. Since then, he spent the rest of his life
dedicated to his inventions.
In the year 1877, Thomas Edison announced the invention of the
phonograph. This device reproduced sound that had been
recorded.

EDILBERTO: On October 21, 1879, Edison made the first public demonstration of
the incandescent light bulb for 3,000 people who gathered in Menlo
Park.
The bulb had a carbon filament and lasted 40 hours with the
intention that more people had better lighting both on the streets
and in their homes.

In the year 1880, Edison is associated with the businessman John

Pierpont Morgan. They created the company called General
Electric. In the year 1887, Edison built an industrial research
laboratory in New Jersey, where he invented many more things.
On October 18, 1931, at the age of 84, Thomas Edison dies
because of problems with diabetes. He died at his home in West
Orange, New Jersey.
