Trump Dumps Migrant Children Into Mexico

The US has a white supremacist for a president, a neo-Nazi in charge

of immigration policy, a useful idiot running Homeland Security, and a
puppet for Attorney General. When two or more of those four get
together to come up with ways to make life more miserable for Latino
immigrants, God help us.

Last week we learned that the collective incompetence of the Trump

administration has resulted in our inability to locate the parents of 545
migrant children from whom they were brutally separated, when they
came together seeking asylum.

Now, we are learning that hundreds of immigrant children from

Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador have been unilaterally expelled
to Mexico in violation of a diplomatic agreement and US immigration
law. These expulsions put the health and safety of minor children at
risk; forcing them to fend for themselves in another foreign country
without any family connections.

Under the terms of the agreement, only children from Mexico with adult
supervision, can be returned to Mexico after reaching the US. According
to government data, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the
administration has expelled 200,000 defenseless immigrants since
March. The report didn’t say how many were children.

Trump’s callous disregard for the lives of migrant children he has

dumped into Mexico may have more than just human consequences.

An estimated 20,000 American jobs depend on every billion dollars in

US trade with Mexico. Mexico is our second largest trading partner and
second largest export market for machinery, vehicles, mineral fuels, and
plastics. Last year, our two-way trade in goods alone totaled $614
billion. Mexico was the second largest supplier of foreign crude oil to the
US, and the largest export market for US refined petroleum and natural
gas products in 2019.

Our economic stability is inextricably tied to good relations with Mexico,

not that Trump knows it or cares. But Americans should know and
understand that to Mexicans, human relations can impact economic
relations.
