The Process of Blended Learning Continuity Plan of Divine Shepherd School of Lipa on

How to Conduct Online Home Schooling

The great impact of the Coronavirus (COVID19) all over the world is too serious. It gives
crisis not only on health status of every nation but also on other aspects of economic growth. It
also affects the worldwide situation of education. It worsens the education and ambitions for the
future of everyone. Most of the schools temporarily closed to lessen the spread of the virus. In
Philippines, many schools and colleges decided to close, and some have problems on meeting
the standard and policy made by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and Department of
Education on how are they going to conduct new educational system – the distance learning. A
new system that has a lot of questions regarding on how the teacher will teach and how the
student will learn.

Divine Shepherd School of Lipa City, Incorporated (DSSLCI) faces the challenge of
keeping it open in able to serve those who are eager to learn despite how this pandemic is
changing the environment. A new challenge that is very different from the traditional form of
teaching. In able to meet the new standard and law implemented by IATF to the Department of
Education and through the supervision of Division of Lipa City, DSSLCI designed a learning
continuity plan. Mr. Joaquin Daniel, the president of the school, formulated the Modified-
Teaching Learning Process (MTLP) together with the recommendation of the directress, Mrs.
Lydia Daniel and of the principal, Mr. Jun Guzman.

Through the intensive study on the new form of educational system in the Philippines,
the MTLP was conceptualized by the president. The concept of tripod of teaching-learning
process is his basis on designing this plan. He believes that whether online or offline process of
learning, there must be an input and output of learning to the students at the end of the day.
Technology will never be a hindrance in learning because he has 100 % guarantee that this
MTLP will become effective for this school year 2020-2021. The proportion of the three factors
on the tripod of teaching-learning process is the key. Why? First, the teacher as the first factor
has the biggest responsibility on transferring learning effectively to the students. He or she will
designed the best learning strategies on distance learning. He or she will be the facilitator,
performer and supervisor on the progress of the students. His or her role is to become the
bridge between the students and the knowledge to be delivered. Second to the tripod is the
learners or the students. They are the center of the tripod of teaching – learning process
because they are considered as the primary clientele of both teacher and learning materials.
They will truly capture the transfer of learning and who will create the meaningful learning for
themselves. Last factor of the tripod is the learning materials. This will serve as the primary
sources of how learning will be acquired by the students.

The MTLP of DSSLCI is very similar to face to face learning but there will no students
who will sit on front of the teacher but in a sense of strictly and closely monitoring on daily given
tasks to the students. The students will stay at home and the teachers will stay at school. There
will be a school program or the daily academic schedule that will serve as the checklist on daily
activities of the students. This form of teaching –learning process will gauge the learning
abilities of a student even they are staying at home. There will be a synchronized guided
activities through the help of books and modules. The teacher will design a different
presentation of learning depending on the ability of the student. There will be one hour in each
subject to attend daily by the students. Classes will start at 7 o’clock in the morning until 12:00
in the afternoon. DSSLCI does this kind of classroom program in able to teach the students to
have time every day on their school activities so that they won’t be lazy in studying. There will
be a strict and close supervision on the performance of the students. In any form of
communication like computers, laptops, cell phone and telephone, the teachers will assure that
they call or meet online all of their students. They must check the performance daily of the
students. The teachers will always give assignments or any written outputs to their student.
These are very important because this will be the product of leanings of the students in a week.
These will be sent to school to check by the teachers once a week. There will be also a
periodical test in each quarter.

In able to deliver this MTLP, the management of DSSLCI prepares the teachers.
They conduct different webinars and trainings in able to understand the new pacing of new
normal education. On the first week of June through the first week of July, different webinars
about preparation of curriculum map and different assessment and forms of delivering the
learnings are provided to the teachers. Teachers are also assigned to do the curriculum map
and modules on their assigned subjects. Mr. Daniel also gives an overview on how new normal
education is very different in face to face learning, and the expectations on implementation of
MTLP. He designs an specific calendar of activities on how the teachers will monitor the
students. Mrs. Daniel provided a short talk on how to become an effective teacher and
motivation on how to accomplish all the tasks of the teacher. Mr. Guzman keenly observed and
guided the teachers from the basic duties of a teacher like the filling out of all forms prepared by
the teachers and the different values that a teacher must have especially now in new normal
system. Ms. Daniel, the registrar, checked and gave recommendation on teachers’ curriculum
map.

DSSLCI is ready for the new normal educational system in school year 2020-2021.
