2. WLAN Coverage Map

A WLAN coverage map shows the estimated WiFi coverage (signal strength in dBm) across the floor.
For typical enterprise data applications, WLAN coverage with minimum signal strength of -75 dBm is
recommended. For real-time applications such as VoIP, minimum signal strength coverage of -65 dBm
is recommended.

3. AP Coverage Redundancy Map

An AP coverage redundancy map shows the number of APs that cover any location on the floor. With
redundancy of two or more, if an AP shuts down for some reason, then clients associated with that AP
can connect to other APs covering that region. This map can be used for planning the desired AP
redundancy at different locations on the floor.

4. Channel Allocation Map

A channel allocation map shows the allocation of channels for the various APs on the floor. This map
can be used for planning the channel assignment for a specific 802.11 protocol to minimize
interference.

5. Channel Interference Map

A channel interference map shows the level of interference (among the various APs) across the floor.
This map can be used to view the amount of co-channel interference or adjacent channel interference
or a combination of both. The transmission power and the channels assigned to the various APs
influence the interference level.

6. Link Speed Map

A link speed map shows the estimated link speed coverage across the floor for a chosen 802.11
protocol. The link speed coverage at a given location indicates the estimated link speed with which a
client can expect to connect to the wireless LAN.

7. Security Exposure Map

This map shows the level of signal spillage outside the layout perimeter. It is assumed that the layout
perimeter constitutes the physical boundary of the premises and any signal spilling outside the
perimeter can be received by an outsider. The estimated spillage is calculated assuming default power
and antenna configuration used in most WiFi devices. A hacker could use a high gain antenna to
receive the signal farther away from the building in which case the potential spillage will be more.

8. Sensor Coverage Map

A sensor coverage map shows the sensor detection and prevention coverage. The map can be used to
visualize the area over which sensors can reliably detect wireless threats and the area over which the
sensors can reliably prevent or block wireless threats.

9. Sensor Redundancy Map

A sensor redundancy map shows the number of sensors that cover any location on the floor. This map
can be used for planning the desired sensor redundancy at different locations on the floor for
detection, prevention, and location tracking of wireless threats.

10. Sensor External Map

This map shows the level of sensor coverage outside the designated layout area. Higher Sensor
coverage indicates a better protection against the security exposure outside the premises.

Disclaimer
SpectraGuard Planner is a predictive RF planning tool that estimates the RF coverage based on the obtained site-
specific information (e.g., layout material) and a combination of empirical observations and theoretical predictions
for 802.11 protocols. Nonetheless, the observed signal strength in reality may differ somewhat from the coverage
predicted by Planner due to the inherent dynamic nature of the RF environment and factors beyond the scope of
Planner. AirTight® Networks, its distributors or suppliers are not liable for any special, incidental or consequential
