recover f¥om the COVID-19 pandemic, we ns rebuild our economies in @

puis the workl on track to imit global temperature rise to 1.5°C. This Fequites
all countries to increase their climate ambition to meer the goals ofthe Paris
‘Agreement on Climate Change.
In this contest, the United Nations, the United Kingdom, and France,
alongside our partners Chile and Ialy. bave the honons to invite you to a
leadar-level virtual Climate Ambition Summit on 12 December 2020, to mark
the fifth anniversary of the Paris Agreement.
‘This Summit, whieh is not part ofthe mandated schedule of the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, will provide a
platform for Parties who are ready to announce ambitious new commitments
‘under the Paris Agreement. There will be ao space for general statements.
‘Virtual, pre-recorded speaking slots for leaders will be accorded on this basis
‘of ambitious new comunitments relating to
‘new, more ambitious nationally detesmined contuibutions:
Jong-term strategies seting out a pathway fo net zero emissions;
climate finance commitments: and
ambitious adaptation plans and underlying policies.‘The ambitious commitments and announcements of private sector and
non-State actors will also be featured.
‘Further details on the programme and formset of the Summit will be
issued in due course.
Excellency, we hope to see you in December with a bold new
‘commitment. Together we ean demonstrate the leadership that will provide the
basis for global progress as we chart a path towards COP26 in Glasgow and
delivery of our Paris goals.
