WRITTEN REPORT GUIDELINES BIO310

• Following are guidelines of written report.

o Cover page
▪ Cover page should include UiTM logo, tittle of project, course name and code,
students’ names, students ID, submission date, group and lecturer’s name.
o Format
▪ Report must be prepared in A4 size, 2cm margins on the left, right, top and
bottom. Prepare the text using Arial font size 12. All the text paragraph should
be 1.5 line spacing. Please include page number starting from content of the
report at the middle of the bottom page. Only Figures and Tables with citation
in text must be presented.
▪ Contents of the report must have Abstract, Introduction, content of case
study/(survey; Results, Discussion), Conclusion and References.
▪ Please add a Table of content with correct page numbers after cover page.
o Introduction
▪ Introduction should have information pertaining to the case study/survey
project. Students are advised to understand the topic of case study/survey
and have adequately analysis of case study/survey before start writing.
Students must able to extract information in relation to their case study
question or questionnaires of survey. The page length should be within 1-3
pages.
o Content of case study//survey
▪ The content should include information analysed from the case study/survey
and its key issues.
▪ For case study: students need to brainstorm among their members to
integrate whatever knowledge sought through to ascertain a mechanism to
solve the case study. The maximum page length should not exceed more than
5 pages but depending on questions given. Explanation on the answer for the
case study must be supported with relevant references.
▪ For survey of project: For survey, content must include Results and
Discussion. The results should include the analysed data obtained from
questionnaires and discussion should include the explanation with relevant
references for every significant data in order to fulfil your aims of survey.
Results and Discussion must include symptoms, causes, any diagnosis from
doctors, prevention, and treatment-medication or natural. The page length
depends on the data obtained.
o Conclusion
▪ It is a summary of the case study/survey. Conclusion must be in a form of
short paragraph. It must contain your own words excluding references in
citation. Approximately 300 words.
o References
▪ Students encourage to use multiple resources namely books, journals article,
scientific magazines and reputable online websites. You are strongly advised
to adhere UiTM guidelines on thesis writing. Please ensure that references
cited in the text are also present in your references list (vice versa). There
must be more than 5 references and should be in an alphabetical order.
▪ The reference itself must include the following:
▪ All the author listed on the publication (or on the chapter if citing a
book)
▪ Year of publication (in bracket)
▪ The title of the paper (or book)
Editor if a chapter of a book is cited
▪ Edition if a book is cited
▪ Volume number
▪ Issue number (some journal article have an issue number)
▪ How to write the author’s name
▪ Example: Mark Johnson → Johnson, M.
▪ Example: Mohammad Razi Mohamad Jan → Mohamad Razi, M.J.
▪ Example: Jianxin Wang → Wang, J.

o Turnitin
▪ Students must submit their case studies along with turnitin reports. Turnitin
is a software-as-a-service website which checks submitted documents against
its database and the content of other websites with the aim of identifying
plagiarism. Student’s turnitin reports must contain less than 30% similarities.
Kindly refer to your individual lecturer for further information on how to run
your case study reports using turnitin software.
