10. Expressing the meaning in short functional text and monologue in the form of
narrative, spoof, and hortatory exposition in the daily context.
Basic competency:

- Expressing an idea/opinion about a case presented in the form of hortatory
exposition
- Explaining statements which support the idea/opinion.
A. Learning objectives
Through modeling and interactive activities, students are able to:
- Perform a simple monologue containing opinion about a case,
- State facts which support the opinion and recommendation to the case that
represent the generic structure of hortatory exposition.

1. Hortatory text:”Watch the Kids While Watching TV”.
2. Pictures containing controversial issues.
3. Vocabulary related to text-type and theme.

a. Pre activity
- Question and answer about things related to students’ life
- Students answer the questions of personal identity
- Asking students their opinion about watching television
b. Whilst activities:
- Reading a hortatory text:”Watch the Kids While Watching TV”.
- Answering the questions related to the text.
- Listening to the teacher’s explanation about the text.
- Discussing the issue based on the picture shown.
- Expressing opinion/idea based on the picture.
- Giving recommendation about the case implied on the picture.
