All 8 ports on the SDI card support both SD-SDI and HD-SDI. Up to 8 SD-SDI channels are supported but the current
hardware and power configuration only supports up to 4 HD-SDI channels

2. Install/Upgrade Electra X Firmware

2.1 Flash Device Firmware


1. Create a bootable USB with the desired Electra X firmware iso file (this requires a USB stick with at least 2GB)

2. Plug the bootable USB stick to the X2 unit and reboot the device

3. Flashing process will start automatically (this will take about 15 min)

4. After the image is loaded, the unit will shutdown

5. Remove the USB stick and power on the unit

To confirm the new image has been installed, configure the Electra X Managment IP address from the Electra X2 console
(or configure IPs in NMX and boot up Electra X2 unit) and log onto the Web GUI (user: harmonic, password: password1!).

2.1.1 Configure the Management IP Address


**Not necessary if Electra X2 is set up in NMX.

1. Connect a monitor to the VGA port and a keyboard to the USB port on the X2 unit

2. Log in with the following credentials: User – root, password – omneon

3. Configure the IP address and default gateway by entering the following command

a. configip <dhcp> <ipaddress> <subnet> <gateway>


ex. Configip no 172.20.20.61 24 172.20.20.1

b. route add default gw <ip address>


ex. Route add default gw 172.20.20.1

2.2 Upgrade Firmware in NMX


1. Place the desired firmware file into a folder and place the folder into the following directory on the NMX Server:

C:\tftpboot\ElectraX2\

2. Select “Firmware Upgrade” in NMX Operator

3. Select the desired version for the desired device

4. Select “Background”(only option) for Upgrade Option

5. Make sure “Auto Reset” is checked

6. Click “Start File Download”

2.3 Upgrade Firmware in SAG


1. Connect to the device management IP with an FTP client (User: harmonic, password: password1!)

2. Upload the upgrade patch (.tar file) to the “update_files” folder

3. Login to the SAG and navigate to the “Settings” -> “Software Upgrade”

4. Select the patch file in the “Targeted Patch” field

5. Click Apply, then OK

6. When the upgrade process ends, a “Reboot Required” alarm will appear. Reboot the device to loaded the upgraded
firmware

3. Setup Electra X2 with NMX

**The Electra X2 encoder will bootp like any other Electra encoder if it is configured on NMX with the encoder’s MAC
address and it has network connectivity to the NMX when it is powered on. The MAC address can be found on the pull-out
service tag from the front panel.

3. Select Electra X2 for the hardware model and set the IP Address, MAC Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway
a. MAC Address can be found on the pull-out service tag from the front panel.

4. Finish creating the map with other devices (if necessary) and make sure the port connections are correct
5. Set port IPs in spreadsheet view

6. Create a new service plan and discover new transport

7. Add output transport

8. Select the output signal/protocol, device type, and name the transport

9. Enter the destination IP and port in the Transport output properties

4. Licensing Information

From the Electra X Installation Guide [1]:

Licensing is required for some encoding features, and you cannot enable those features without the appropriate
licensing. You can add licenses to your system using the Harmonic NLM 4.0 (NodeLock License Manager). In NLM 4.0,
you can:

 Add licenses to your Harmonic device.

 Remove licenses from your Harmonic device.

Most licenses are permanent—once enabled the feature will continue to function without raising license-related
alarms. A small set of licenses are time-limited and have different behavior, as follows:

 Streams that include features under license will raise alarms when their licensing expires.

 When a license expires for a feature, that feature is disabled.

CAUTION: If a license expires while a channel is running on Electra X2, that channel will be stopped immediately.
