4. Name plants that people eat.
Some animals use plants for food, to
hide or to make a home for their
young. People use plants (beets,
cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce, corn)
and animals for foodfoodfoodfood (fish, chicken,
cow) clothing and shelter. Plants
are also used to beautify our
surroundings and as medicine.
People eat the meat of some animals
and use their skin and other body
parts to make clothing and shoes.
Some animals such as dogs and cats
are used as pets. Other animals can
be used to help people do work.
4. Students will work in cooperative
groups to make pictures or
models of different fruits and
vegetable that they eat. Make a
fruit and vegetable stall and have
the groups label and place their
picture or drawing in it.

Trait” Game.
Distribute pictures and trait strips
of plants and animals.

1. Identify places where plants
and animals live.
Plants can be found living almost
everywhere. Some plants live in
wet and shady places such as a
forest. Some live in very dry places
such as the desert. Some plants live
where there is ice and snow, and
others may live in the ocean.
Animals can also be found living in
different places. Some animals live
in caves, holes in the ground, in the
ocean, under stones, in trees and on
the bodies of other animals.
1a. Rain Forest in a jar
Procedure:
i. Put pebbles, soil, and plants in
a jar.
ii. Water the plants. Put the lid
on the jar.
iii. Put the jar to get some light.
iv. Wait one day. Observe. How
is this like a Rain Forest?
1b. Make a Bird Feeder
Procedure:
i. Cut the top off a plastic jug.
Punch holes on both sides.
ii. Tie string through the holes.
iii. Pour some birdseed inside.
Hang outdoors.
iv. Observe birds that eat the
seeds.
1c. An Animal Home
Procedure:
i. Put soil, twigs, rocks, water
and a small animal in a box.
ii. Observe how the animal uses
its home.
iii. Draw what you see. Close
the lid.
