BMW ISTA-D Rheingold Installation Manual

Preparations
ATTENTION! Your computer will restart during the installation process, so save all your open files
and close all unused windows. There is no need to connect your BMW INPA diagnostics cable to the PC
for now. This manual applies to ALL WINDOWS VERSIONS – simply follow the instructions below.
ATTENTION! This manual is made for 64-bit editions of Windows. If you are using 32-bit Windows,
then simply replace “PROGRAM FILES (X86)” with “PROGRAM FILES” everywhere you see it in this manual.
 IMPORTANT: If you do not have WinRAR installed, you can download and install it from the
following link: http://www.win-rar.com/download.html?&L=0
 IMPORTANT: If you do not have uTorrent installed, you can download and install it from the
following link: http://www.utorrent.com/intl/en/downloads/complete/track/stable/os/windows
 If you are using Windows Vista, 7 , 8 or 8.1 you can proceed straight to Step №3
1. Open the start menu, enter ‘user’ and choose “Change User Account Control settings” from
the results:

2. In the newly opened window drag the slider to the lowest position (as shown on the picture)
and then select “OK”:
ATTENTION! After this step completes, REBOOT your computer!
3. If you are using 64-bit Windows, open the folder “C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)”. If you are using
32-bit Windows, open the folder “C:\PROGRAM FILES”. Create a new folder named “BMW”
there and open it.

4. Download the following files from the following links:
ISTA-D X.XX.XX.7z link

OTHER X.XX.XX.7z link
From the next links, download the languages you would

like:
EN X.XX.XX.7z link
5. Now go to the newly created folder that you have just made and from your Downloads
folder, copy the ISTA-D X.XX.XX.7z file that you have downloaded and copy it in the BMW
Folder you just made :
Do the same thing for the downloaded OTHER X.XX.XX and language YY X.XX.XX files that
you have downloaded from the links:

6. Right-click on the file “ISTA-D X.XX.XX.7Z” and select “Properties”:

7. Check the “Unblock” option (if there is such a checkbox) and then select “OK”. If you see the
next warning window, select “Continue”:

8. Repeat the previous two steps with the other language files, “YY X.XX.XX.7Z , OTHER
X.XX.XX.7Z”:

9. Right-click “ISTA-D X.XX.XX.7Z” again and select “Extract Here”:

10. The extraction process will take about 10minutes. ATTENTION! Do not extract the other file!
11. Right-click the “SQLITEDBS” files and select “Cut”:

12. Open the newly created folder “BMW\RHEINGOLD\SQLITEDBS” and paste the files inside:
13. Again, if you see such a warning window, select “Continue”:
14. Right-click the files and this time select “Extract Here”:

15. The extraction process should again take around 10 minutes to complete. Then do the same
for the language file YY X.XX.XX.7z
16. After the extraction is complete, select the files that are the archives and press Shift-Delete
to permanently delete it:
17. You should see this small confirmation dialog and select “Yes”:

18. Once again, you may have to select “Continue”:
19. Go back to the folder “C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\BMW” and permanently delete the “ISTA-D
X.XX.XX.7Z” file the same way:

ATTENTION! If you have already installed BMW INPA, you can

continue to the next step!
If you have NOT installed BMW INPA, please first install it using
the manual “BMW INPA INSTALLATION MANUAL ALL WIN OS” and then
return and continue from the next step.
First-time setup and activation

20. Return to the folder “C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\BMW”. Inside open the following subfolder:
“RHEINGOLD\TESTERGUI\BIN\RELEASE” and locate the file named “ISTAGUI”.
21. Right-click this file and select “Send to”  “Desktop”

22. Right-click the first file inside the same folder and select “Properties”:

23. If there is NO “Unblock” checkbox like the one on the picture below, select “OK” to close
this window and continue to the next step in this manual.
If there is such a checkbox, select it and then select “OK” to unblock this file. You will then
need to unblock every file in this folder one by one! After that, open the folder
“…\RHEINGOLD\SQLITEDBS” and unblock every file inside the same way: right-click 
“Properties”  “Unblock”  “OK”.

24. Now you need to download the following three files from the following download links :
ISTA-D Reg Fix x64 link

ISTA-D Reg Fix x86 link
License.txt link
25. Move them (paste them) in the C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\BMW\RHEINGOLD LOCATION
26. Double-click the reg files you copied :
27. Select “Yes” to confirm the action:

28. Select “OK”:
29. Run BMW ISTA from the newly created desktop shortcut and wait for it to load.
ATTENTION! Do not change any settings or connect the vehicle to your computer yet!
30. If you get the following error message as from the screenshot below, that means you are
missing vital Win OS components.
Use this link which is All in One Runtimes downloader, it will download everything needed
for your ISTA-D setup :

31. The first time you run ISTA-D, you will see this warning window. Select “Next” to continue:
32. On the next window select “Next” without changing anything!

33. You will then see a windows with two large text fields, labeled “KEY” and “LICENSE”.
34. Go back to the folder named “C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\BMW\RHEINGOLD” (if you are using 32-
bit Windows, this should be “C:\PROGRAM FILES\...”). Open the file “LICENSE.TXT”:

35. Select the entire text by right-clicking and choosing “Select All” or pressing Ctrl+A on your
keyboard:
36. Copy the selected text (again by right-clicking and choosing “Copy” or pressing Ctrl+C)

37. Paste the text in the “LICENSE” field in the ISTA-D window and select “Next”:

38. In the “ISIS” text field type only “1” (without the quotes, as shown on the picture) and select
“Finish” below:
39. If you see the following error message, just select “OK” – this is a part of the installation
process:

40. Run ISTA-D from the desktop shortcut again. If you see another error message like the one
shown on the picture, close it by selecting the “X” above:
41. IMPORTANT: If you cannot see the entire ISTA-D window, double-click the gray area marked
on the picture to make the window fill up the screen:
42. Open the ISTA-D settings window by clicking the wrench icon on the top:

43. Open the “VCI CONFIG TAB” and select “Ediabas standard settings (ediabas.ini)”. Select “OK”
to confirm this change.
! WARNING ! This setting is for E-Series BMWs using the K+DCAN cable ! If you are going to
use the ENET cable, select “Dealer organization ICOM / ENET local area network”
44. You can minimize or close the ISTA-D window by selecting these two icons on the top row:
BMW TOOLS AND ISTA-D RHEINGOLD HAVE BEEN INSTALLED SUCCESSFULLY

AND ARE FULLY FUNCTIONAL AND READY TO USE!
