BMW ISTA-P Installation Manual

Preparations
ATTENTION! Your computer will restart during the installation process, so save all your open files
and close all unused windows. There is no need to connect your BMW diagnostics cable to the PC for
now. This manual applies to ALL WINDOWS VERSIONS – simply follow the instructions below.
ATTENTION! Make sure you have at least 200GB of free space in your drive C: before the installation
process and you have already installed INPA & ISTA-D FIRST! Otherwise, the installation will be
unsuccessful! The installation involves an extraction process, which takes up to 4 hours!
1. Download the ISTA-P Core files from the following link: ISTA-P CORE FILES.zip link
2. Copy the “ISTA-P CORE FILES.ZIP” file to drive “C:\”:
3. Right-click this file and select “Properties”:

4. If you see a checkbox labeled “UNBLOCK”, as in the picture below, place a checkmark inside it
and then select “OK”. If there is no such checkbox, simply select “OK”:
5. Right-click this file again and select “Extract Here”. The extraction process will take a couple
of seconds:

6. Open the newly created folder “ISTA-P CORE FILES”:
7. Open the file named “UNBLOCKER.REG”:
8. In the small warning window select “Yes”:
9. When the operation completes, select “OK”:
10. Open the file “ADOBEAIRINSTALLER.EXE”:
11. If you see the following window, select “Run”:

12. Select “I agree” to begin the installation:
13. When the installation completes, select “Finish”:
14. The following window should pop-up on the screen almost immediately after that. Select
“Update now”:

15. Select “Update”:
16. After this installation completes too, select “Finish”:
17. Open the folder, containing all the software, again and open the file
“FLASHPLAYER_16_AX_DEBUG”:

18. If you see the following window, then your computer already has the last version of Flash
Player installed and you can select “Quit”. Otherwise simply follow the on-screen
instructions in order to install it.
19. Return to the folder with the software and open the file “SHOCKWAVE_INSTALLER_SLIM.EXE”:
20. Remove the checkmark from the “Include Norton Internet Security” box and select “Next”:

21. Wait for the installation to finish and then select “Close”:
22. Run the file “NETWORKTOOL”, located in the same folder:
23. Wait for the process to finish:
24. Select “OK”:

ATTENTION! Restart your computer before continuing with the installation!
25. Open the start menu and type ‘network’. Select “View network connections” from the
results:
26. There should now exist an entry named “USB”, as shown on the picture.

27. Right-click this entry and select “Enable”:
28. Wait until you see the following window for a short time:
29. Right-click the same entry again and select “Properties”:

31. Click on “INTERNET PROTOCOL VERSION 4 (TCP/IPV4)” and select “Properties”:
32. In the newly open window input the following IP addresses exactly as shown on the picture
below! When all the fields are filled in, select “OK” in order to confirm the changes. You can
then close all other windows.

33. Download the 6 ISTA-P 3.66 files from the following links to drive “C:\”. Each file takes up
4.6GB of space and the total downloaded data will be around 30GB:

34. Right-click the “ISTA-P 3.65.0.600.7Z.001” file and select “Properties”:
35. ATTENTION! If you see a checkbox labeled “UNBLOCK”, as in the picture below, place a
checkmark inside it and then select “OK”. Then repeat this unblocking process for the other
15 downloaded files!
If there is no such checkbox for the “ISTA-P 3.65.0.600.7Z.001” file, simply select “OK” and
continue to the next step:

36. ATTENTION: In order to install ISTA-P, you will need to have 7-Zip installed on your
computer. If you do not have 7-Zip, you can download and install it from this link.
37. Right-click the “ISTA-P 3.65.0.600.7Z.001” file and select “Extract Here”:
38. Wait for the extraction process to complete. It may take up to 4 hours, so you can use your
computer in the meantime. DO NOT restart your computer during this time, or you will
have to start over from the beginning!
Continue to the next step only AFTER the extraction

process is completed! Do not extract the other files!
Their contents will be extracted automatically!

39. You will see a new folder named “ISTA-P 3.65.0.600” in drive C:\. Open it and inside open
the folder “TOOLS”:

40. Select the folder “ISTA-P LOADER” and copy it to “C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)”:
41. Open the copied folder and inside it open “ACTIVATION KEY.TXT”:
42. Select the activation key and copy it, as shown below:
43. Close this window and then run “BMW ISTA-P LOADER.EXE” from the same folder:

44. When you see the small activation code text field, use Ctrl-V to paste the code inside it.
Then select ”Continue”:
45. After you enter the code, the window will close on its own. Right-click the same file (“BMW
ISTA-P LOADER.EXE”) and select “Send to”  “Desktop (create shortcut)”:
Using the BMW ISTA-P software
46. ATTENTION! The following steps should be followed every time you use the ISTA-P
software. Connect your BMW INPA diagnostics cable to the appropriate USB port on your
computer and run BMW ISTA-P from the desktop shortcut:
During the first execution of the program you will have to make some initial adjustments and
settings, so continue to the next step. Every time you run the program after that, you can skip directly to
step №53.
47. Select “Manual mode”:

48. In the newly opened window click on “LOCAL DISK (C:)”, then click the folder “ISTA-P 3.60”
and then the folder “ISTA-P”. Then select “OK”:
49. Check the “Expert mode” checkbox in the small window, without changing the other fields,
and select “Save”:
50. Check the “Always ignore this message” checkbox and select “Continue”:
51. When prompted for a name, address, ZIP code and town, just enter something random. This
will not affect the way you can use the software. Select “Save” to continue:

52. If you see the following windows, check both of the boxes and select “Allow access”:
53. Wait for BMW ISTA-P to load and you shall see the small window from the picture. First
select “K+DCAN USB”:

54. On the first execution of the program you will see the same window again. Place
checkmarks in both boxes and select “Allow access”:
55. Next, select the button corresponding to the vehicle you will be connecting – BMW Cars,
BMW Motorcycles, BMW i, Mini or Rolls-Royce:
56. In the main ISTA-P window select “Create new session”:

57. Select “Select ISTA-P server automatically” and click on “Continue” in the bottom-right
corner:
58. In the new window select the only existing entry (named something similar to “K+DCAN USB
169.254.0.8:6801”) and select “Connect”:

59. If everything has been set up correctly, you should see the following window. When you
connect your diagnostics cable to your car, you will see the full details and parameters here
and you can use the BMW ISTA-P software with every feature and function available.
BMW ISTA-P HAS BEEN INSTALLED SUCCESSFULLY

AND IS FULLY FUNCTIONAL AND READY TO USE !
