UTTARAKAND

Uttarakhand State has come into being at a time when its extra ordinally well-placed to
benefit from the new information economy as it is able to play by the rules of the new era
and is responsive to the demands of the global services economy, which when it seeks the
best locations for itself looks for several factors. if a clean and pollution-free environment is
going to serve as a competitive advantage it stands to reason that the new state will do
everything it can to promote it. this might include a programme to encourage cleaner,
environment-friendly transportation systems and efforts at large scale afforestation.

MSME Department 
(Directorate of industries) is the State level office responsible for implementing the policies
and programmes for Industrial Development in the State. The main aim of Directorate of
Industries is to provide a comprehensive framework to enable a facilitating, investor friendly
environment for ensuring rapid and sustainable industrial development in Uttarakhand and
through this to generate additional employment opportunities and to bring about a significant
increase in the State Domestic Product, eventually widening the resource base of the State.

Uttarakhand Handloom & Handicraft Development Council (UHHDC) is a society registered

under Society Registration Act, 1860. The Industry Minister is a Chairperson of this council.
Principal Secretary, Industry is the member secretary of the council. The council works
through the Directorate of Industries & District Industry Centres. Additional Director of
Industry is the Chief Executive Officer of this council.

Handlooms

Handicraft
Uttarakhand specializes in a variety of handicrafts which are unique in their beauty and
intricacies. They infuse their art into the utility products with fineness worth appreciation.
District Industries Centre (DIC) 
Comes under the Department of Industries. The primary objective of the DIC is to generate
employment by way of promoting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises(MSMEs), Cottage
and Handicrafts Industries. The packages of services offered by the District Industries
Centre are Multidimensional and need based for facilitating industrial growth in respect of
new and graduating enterprises.
