LUBRICATION(H4DOTC DIESEL) > General Description
CAUTION
• Wear appropriate work clothing, including a cap, protective goggles and protective shoes when performing any work.
• Remove contamination including dirt and corrosion before removal, installation or disassembly.
• Keep the disassembled parts in order and protect them from dust and dirt.
• Before removal, installation or disassembly, be sure to clarify the failure. Avoid unnecessary removal, installation,
disassembly and replacement.
• Vehicle components are extremely hot after driving. Be wary of receiving burns from heated parts.
• Be sure to tighten fasteners including bolts and nuts to the specified torque.
• Place shop jacks or rigid racks at the specified points.
• Before disconnecting connectors of sensors or units, be sure to disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery.
• If engine oil spills onto the exhaust pipe or the under cover, wipe it off with a cloth to avoid emitting smoke or causing
a fire.
• Prepare a container and cloth when performing work which oil possibly spills. If oil spills, wipe it off immediately to
prevent from penetrating into floor or flowing out for environmental protection.
• Follow all government and local regulations concerning disposal of refuse when disposing oil.

TOOL NAME REMARKS
Oil filter wrench Used for removing oil filter.
LUBRICATION(H4DOTC DIESEL) > Engine Oil
INSPECTION
CAUTION:
If engine oil spills onto the exhaust pipe or the under cover, wipe it off with a cloth to avoid emitting smoke or
causing a fire.
1. Drive the vehicle for 5 — 10 km (3 — 6 miles) to raise the engine coolant temperature until the needle of the
engine coolant temperature gauge goes up to the middle between Hot and Cold.
2. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
3. Stop the engine and leave it for five minutes.
4. Remove the oil level gauge and wipe away the oil.
5. Insert the oil level gauge all the way.
NOTE:
Be sure that the oil level gauge is correctly inserted and properly oriented.
6. Pull out the oil level gauge again, and record the oil level. If the engine oil level is below “L” line, add oil to bring
the level up to “F” line.
7. Drive the vehicle for 5 — 10 km (3 — 6 miles) to raise the engine coolant temperature until the needle of the
engine coolant temperature gauge goes up to the middle between Hot and Cold.
8. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
9. Stop the engine and leave it for five minutes.
10. Check the engine oil level.
NOTE:
To prevent overfilling of oil, do not add oil above “F”.
