Evidence: The time is now

This evidence is divided into two parts: A composition and an audio file. Read the
instructions below and make sure you complete both tasks.

A. Answer the questions below. Use the examples as models of the grammar and
vocabulary you have to use.

1. Why didn’t you study English before? (List at least 5 reasons in a

composition.)

Example:

One of the reasons why I didn’t study English before it is because I thought it
was too difficult. I didn’t understand my English teacher at school and that
was frustrating.
 The main reason I hadn't studied English before was because I didn't see it necessary
in my life.

Another reason was because I thought that the little I learned in school would help
me defend myself in this language.

He did not understand the language very well so he did not pay much attention to the
class.

It's frustrating that other colleagues learn much more easily than I do.

I didn't know it would be a requirement for my career in industrial engineering.

2. How different would things be if you had learned English before? (Name and
explain at least 5 things.)

Example:

If I had learned English some years ago I would have accepted a job a
multinational company offered me five years ago. One of the requirements
was to speak English and my level back then was very low.

If I had learned English earlier, I would not have to rush to learn the language.

He would not have missed the opportunity to leave the country for a job offer.

It would help me a lot to advance my work.

If I had taken English before, it would not be so difficult to do these virtual courses

It would have helped me too much to understand the manuals of the machines of my
company.

B. Record an audio file of yourself answering the following questions. Use the
examples as models of the grammar and vocabulary you have to use.

1. Why are you studying English? (List and explain at least 4 reasons.)
 Example:

I’m studying English because I finally decided that if I want to improve my

professional profile becoming bilingual is essential.

 I study English because it is a requirement in my professional career.

 I also have the opportunity to work in a country where the main language is
English.
 I would like to travel to the United States and be able to communicate easily.
 Without a doubt, mastering English is essential to have a better chance of
finding a good job.

2. In what ways are you going to benefit from this learning?

Example:

Being competent in English is going to increase the opportunities of landing a more

satisfying and better-paid job. We live in an international open market and English
is the most important language.

If we master the English language we will have access to a more complete

education and we will be able to consult a greater amount of information than if we
limit ourselves to mastering only our native language.
