Family Dinner with MFSB (Mother, Father, Sister, Brother)

M: What would you like for dinner tonight?

B: Chicken Nuggets!!!
S: Carrot Soup!
B: Ehh? Why would you want that stuff?
D: Now, now. Why not have both? Right, dear?
M: Sure. We’ll have chicken nuggets and carrot soup.

*Minutes later, they sit down at the table*

M: I hope the chicken nuggets isn’t too salty.

B: No. It tastes delicious!
S: Yeah. And the carrot soup tastes great.
M: Shucks. Thank you.
D: You never let me down with your cooking, Dear. HAAHAAHAAHAA
M: You flatter me, Dear. So, how is your school today?
B: It’s great. We have an art class today and I got a star!
D: Hoho? A star? How did you do it?
B: Our teacher asked us to draw anything we want.
D: And so what happened?
B: She said that my drawing is amazing!! Then she gave me a star for the best drawing
in the class.
M: Wow! That is amazing.
S: *Pout* Hmph! It must’ve be an awful drawing. Speaking of drawings, did you see my
painting in the gallery?
D: Oh. That painting you’ve been working on for a month.
S: Yeah! It took my blood, sweat, and tears but it was worth it.
D: Yeah, I’m proud of you, my daughter.
M: Yep. I’ll try to visit the gallery to see your beautiful painting tomorrow.
S: *blush* Hehehehehe…
M: But going back to what we’re talking about, I wanna know more about your little
brother’s drawing.
S: *internal screaming*
B: Actually! I got it right here.
D: Bring it out. Lemme see.
M: Oh? What did you actually draw?
B: A picture of my sister!
S: Eh? What did you say?
B: I drew my sister! This is her right here. This thing she’s holding is her brush because
she’s a much more amazing artist than me.
D & M: *smiles*
S: *slowly tears up*
B: I knew she’s even greater than me when it comes to drawing. But when my teacher
said to draw anything we want, the first thing I thought of was my sister!
S: Ah! You-… It’s not a great drawing, you know.
B: I know… *looks down*
S: But I can teach you how you can become greater.
B: *eyes sparkles* Really???
S: *smiles* Yeah.
M: Now, now. Finish your dinner first~
B & S: Yes, Mom.

*then they finished their dinner*

B: Come on! Let’s start tonight.

D: No, Son. Tomorrow is a school day. You go right up your rooms and sleep.
B: Aww… Boooo…
M: Then good night. I’ll see you two tomorrow~

Explanation:

This small patch of conversation is the Restriction since the mother already put
a condition into what could be the only possible responses, which is dinner.

This line represents the Nominative because the mother initiates a conversation
topic.

This line shows the Topic-Shifting because the sister introduces a new topic.

The mother’s dialogue in this part shows Topic-Control since the mother prevents
the continuation of the topic-shifting and pulls it back to the original topic.

This line is the Repair because the sister clarifies if what she heard was right.

This is the Terminator since the mother signaled the end of the conversation.

Lastly, this whole conversation is a Turn-taking because each of the family

members took turns speaking.
