Introducing the exclusive Sabre Gas Piston rifles
Let the industry buzz begin: Sabre Defence has just upgraded three
of our top carbines with a new state-of-the-art piston system that
experts are already calling the best in the business. This historic
breakthrough improves weapon function and reliability in dusty desert
conditions, minimizing the need for cleaning due to carbon fouling.
The Sabre M4 Tactical, M5 Tactical and Competition Deluxe are
now available fitted with either our exclusive piston system, or with
traditional Direct Gas Impingement (DI System).
Here’s the technical story in a nutshell. The traditional DI System
has been used on every U.S. military M16 and M4 Carbine made
over the past five decades. Without a doubt, it has distinguished
itself as a simple and effective design. The basic idea is to vent
high-pressure gas through a port in the barrel. This gas is channeled
back to the bolt carrier, forcing it backward. As the bolt carrier
moves, a cam rotates the bolt to unlock the action. Both the bolt and
carrier continue back until a recoil spring starts pushing the carrier
forward. Each time this happens, the bolt strips a live round from the
magazine, pushing it up into the chamber.
This approach has stood the test of time. It is elegant in its simplicity,
and doesn’t add much weight to a rifle. But there has always been
one major drawback: until now, every DI System dumped hot gases,
carbon fouling and powder residue right back into the receiver. The

resulting buildup can cause malfunctions in the field, and dictates a
rigorous cleaning regimen.
Sabre Defence solves this problem definitively with a new piston
system. Its function is similar to the DI system, with one very
important difference: rather than traveling back directly into the
receiver, the hot gases instead push a piston and operating rod. It is
this rod that moves the bolt carrier. In other words, the same potent
energy still forces the bolt carrier rearward, only it now does so
without dumping hot gases and fouling into the receiver. The gases
are vented safely forward, away from the shooter.
Our solution greatly reduces the amount of debris that can
accumulate in the receiver. It keeps the weapon cleaner, and requires
less maintenance. And it does all this with the durability you’d expect
from Sabre—each component is crafted from the highest-quality
materials, then treated with IonBond DLC (Diamond Like Coating).
DLC is a highly advanced technology that provides an incredibly hard,
corrosion-resistant surface. This means less friction, longer part life
and simplified cleaning.
In some situations, these benefits can actually save lives. But then,
the people of Sabre have always understood what’s at stake. This is
why we’re especially proud to offer what we believe to be by far the
most advanced piston-operated rifles available today.

5.56 NATO / .223 Remington
The 5.56 NATO/.223 Remington is one of the most popular rifle cartridges in the world.
It has proven itself as a military cartridge for nearly 50 years, and is also wildly popular
with hunters. Prized for its flat shooting, with excellent accuracy and good terminal ballistics.

We offer nearly all of our rifles with a true mil-spec 5.56 NATO chamber. The only exceptions:
the Heavy Bench Target Rifle and Precision Marksman Rifle with the 24” heavy profile barrel
are chambered in .223 Remington. The 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington cartridges share
identical dimensions, though military 5.56 ammo is typically loaded to higher pressures
and velocities than commercial equivalents. Please note that while they are generally
interchangeable, chamber dimensions for the .223 Remington are slightly tighter than
those of the 5.56 NATO. Use caution when firing military 5.56 NATO ammunition in a .223
Remington chamber.

6.5 Grendel™
The 6.5 Grendel™ cartridge is designed to maximize the capability of AR15-style rifles. For
long-range competition shooters, it allows the use of high ballistic coefficient 6.5 mm match
bullets. This minimizes wind-drift characteristics and improves accuracy at range. Hunters and
tactical marksmen appreciate the significant increase in terminal ballistics offered by the 6.5

.204 Ruger
The .204 Ruger was developed in 2004 by Hornady Manufacturing, Inc., and Sturm, Ruger &
Co., Inc. At the time of its introduction, the .204 Ruger was the highest velocity commercially
produced cartridge available. It is also the only one produced commercially for .20 inch/5 mm
caliber bullets. The .204 Ruger’s primary use is hunting small varmints, as it offers a flat
trajectory without a great deal of mass or kinetic energy. We offer our Heavy Bench Target

Tolerances this tight leave no room for compromise

By harnessing new technologies and insisting on a quality control regimen many considered
impossibly strict, Sabre has once again redefined the high end of the gunsmith’s art.
Spend any time at all up close with a Sabre barrel, and you’ll understand why they are in
constant demand, even by other gun makers.

Our process begins with the selection of raw materials. Sabre uses only premium Mil-Spec
Chrome-Moly Vanadium or 410 Stainless Steel alloy for our barrels. This may seem like
overkill for our commercial weapons—after all, this is the same steel used for our .50 caliber
U.S. military machine gun barrels. But top-grade steel produces a gun that wears less, lasts
longer and remains accurate long after a typical barrel has been reduced to scrap.

Because most gun manufacturers don’t build weapons for the military, they aren’t able
to access the superior alloys we use. Even if they could, the only way to purchase such
specialized material is by ordering full mill runs—93,000 pounds at a time.

Every Sabre barrel must endure the same ISO 9001-2008 quality control regimen used for
our military contracts. From its beginnings as a solid steel bar, each barrel’s progress is tightly
controlled all the way through manufacturing to final delivery. All barrels are marked with lot
numbers, tracing them to specific material certifications, machinists and even machines used.
Every piece is meticulously measured inside and out after each step in the process. Anything
found to be even slightly out of tolerance is cut and quickly dismissed to the scrap pile.

Is there another gun manufacturer who tracks each and every part so carefully? Do any of
them test-fire every single barrel? Is such a high level of commitment really necessary? We
believe so. At the end of the day improved accuracy, longer life and flawless performance
under heavy use are worth the extra time and trouble.

This is why there is only one grade of Sabre barrel. A product either lives up to our exacting
specifications, or it never leaves the factory.
