Connections to Other Subjects: Social Studies (immigration and geography). Students will do
research on successful immigrants, that can be from any Hispanic region.

Instructional Procedures:
-They will be asked to use a piece of paper to make a "Yes/No" sign, which will be used to
answer yes/no questions.
-Questions will be asked and a short class discussion will take place
-After the discussion, students will be introduced to the project they will be working on
individually for the week. For the project, students will be doing a poster presentation on a
successful immigrant with Hispanic roots. The poster will include details about the person they
choose, such as: their past, their struggles, their accomplishments and images.
-There will be a clarification of vocabulary words (hispano, latino, exitoso).
-The definition of hispano/a and latino/a will be given and explained, while the definition of
exitoso/a will be discussed.
-Students will receive a template, which will contain all the information they have to include. It
is just a guide to help them in the assignment. They can use it as it is, rearrange it, use a different
platform, or even do it by hand; however all the information that is shown on the template has to
be part of their poster.
-We will look through the template and the information they will need to find on the person that
they chose.
-Students will do research and select the person they will be doing their project on; once they do
so, they will share the name of the person on the chat for it to be noted. No decisions are final on
the first day, but if there is a change, they have to discuss it with the teacher.
-Students will look at an example of what is expected from their assignment, afterwards they will
start researching.
Assessment:
Formative assessment- we will look for students’ daily progress on their assignment; how much
information they have found and added to their poster
Summative assessment- grading of the final product; we expect the students to have all the
information they were asked to find and share it on their poster, they have to explain and
elaborate on their answers, being as detailed as possible

Accommodations/Modifications/Enrichment:
Use of modeling- students will get to look at an example made by the teacher.
Use of guided practice- as a class we will look for reliable sources of information, review the
questions to understand what information they have to be looking for while they do their
research.
Emphasis on key vocabulary
Variety of questions (yes/ no questions, discussion questions)
Check for understanding- at different points during the lesson, we will check on students to
verify that they understand and no one is falling behind.
