PINOY 1 COMMENT

Manila’s Chinatown
BINONDO, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Apparently not content with its claim over
the disputed territory in the South China Sea, the Chinese government today announced it
was laying claim over the oldest Chinatown in the world — in Manila!
Manila’s Chinatown, located in and around the Binondo district, was established in the late
1500s. It was built by the Spaniards as a settlement for Catholic Chinese, and was positioned
across the Pasig River so that the colonial rulers could keep a close eye on their migrant
subjects.  To this day, it continues to be a center of commerce and trade in Manila where all
types of businesses are run by Filipinos of Chinese ancestry.

center of commerce and trade of goods and any businesses. Even if there is dispute between
two countries the lives of people in Chinatown continues and also the businesses that runs

ANSWER: for us the modes that present in the story are linguistic, visual, and gestural
because it compromises the aspects contents of the text and understandable to all and the
images that tells the message of the article and how the author of the article expresses his

territories. The modes of the articles shown, it can easily understand what is trying to say with
the images and content of the article.

4) Do you think the story is true? Why do you say so?

ANSWER: yes, the story is true because even today South China Sea are still claiming by the
Chinese Government that they own that area even though the United Nation proclaimed that
the real owner of South China Sea is the Philippines. Aside from that, Chinatown is still the
center of commerce and trading of goods around the world or the center of trading
businesses that comes in and out of the country.

5) Does the “news story” seem one-sided or biased towards a particular point of view?
ANSWER: No, because it states in the article is the issue between the two countries and how
Chinatown was built and become the center of business here in the Philippines. In despite of
disputes and claiming over of the South China sea and migrants in Chinatown the author
wants us to be aware and give information on how we fight for what is right and we creating
harmony and piece to our fellow Chinese citizen who lives in our country.

FACTUAL INFORMATION: South China Sea really belongs to the Philippines but the China

Nations before publicly announce or inform that the South China Sea really belongs to the
Philippines not in China. Thus, Chinatown also claimed that China owns it, the fact that
Chinatown was built by Spaniards so that all migrant subjects can live.

MISLEADING INFORMATION: Self-proclaim of territories of China here in the Philippine area

even though there some evidences that proves of ownership of territories. This is the way of
China to expand their power and territories.

ANSWER: the message that trying to say of the image is the life of Yemeni’s people in Yemen. As
you can see in the background of the woman is how poorly and dry the place. if you read the article,
there is more than a message behind the image because this article tells how Yemeni’s people suffer
from war and hunger. Many people died because of lack of supplies of food and the continues war
around Yemen. Many children have died and have been affected during the war, Yemeni's parent
witness burying their child from the bombs raining down in their territory by Saudi-led Coalition that
non-stop bombing in Yemen.
2) Who is the target audience of the message?

ANSWER: the target audience of the message are the Yemeni’s people whose suffering from hunger
and war, and the heartbreaking scene of a parent seeing their child died and burying them. Also, the
people asking for help to save them and to provide them some food so that they can live and survive
from these casualties happened to them.

3) What modes were used in presenting the message? Did it help build the credibility of the story?

ANSWER: the modes that used in presenting the message are linguistic, visual, and gestural. The
article represents the modes of the story it compromises the language, the viewpoint of the story, and
the expression that the Yemeni’s people are experiencing from hunger while at war. With the help of
this modes the author can express his/her analyses and observation of the life of Yemeni’s People
and the situation of Yemen country. Furthermore, it states the real facts of the country and also the
way of knowing the people around the world so that someone may initiative to help them and save
them from the cruel situation they’re facing. Its time for them be save and experience a better life.

4) Do you think the story is true? Why do you say so?

ANSWER: yes, because this story is not just a fiction to say. If we research or look for the facts about
Yemen, wars and hunger are not just a something that you can lightly create s story just because you
want to. The story is really happening because Yemen is known for world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
Yemeni’s people really struggling on how to survive in their daily life.

5) Does the picture/headline seem one-sided or biased towards a particular point of view?

ANSWER: Yes, because the government are not taking action about the crisis that Yemeni’s people
facing. Through all these years and repeating situation that they are encounter there is no changes at
all. Even now many people suffer and keep hungry because of lack of food supply and they having a
hard time in surviving from war. Even though this crisis keeps happening no one taking action to save
Yemeni’s people. I hope that this crisis will be over and so that they can keep forward to their life.
Instead of watching them suffer, the government must do some action regarding to their situation and
help them to live and give a warm place and safe shelter.

FACTUAL INFORMATION: the information gather was legit and real because the fact that Yemen
country is experiencing struggle and hardship in living for a better life. But no one has any intention of
saving them because they are still in worst humanitarian crisis around the world and war are still
happening. May people died from suffer from hunger and died from war. As you can see, it really
hurts thinking ang seeing this kind of situation. To think that a parent witness how their child died not
only from war but also in hunger because there are no parents wants to witness or watch their child
suffer. And also, there no progress of improvement and development in the Yemen country.

MISLEADING INFORMATION: No one give human rights to the Yemeni’s people and seeing them
struggles every day. As you can see, the number of dead Yemeni’s are increasing rapidly especially
children. But also, the unresolved of death because of starvation.
