4. LICENSE RESTRICTIONS
You agree that You are granted a limited right to Use only, and that You will not Yourself, or through any parent,
subsidiary, affiliate, agent or other third party:
(a) lease, license or sub-license the Software or the Documentation;
(b) sell or otherwise transfer the Software or Documentation, unless, subject to Article 9.4, You transfer your
rights under this Agreement to a corporation or other entity and that at the time of transfer You pass the
Software (and any and all copies in Your control) to such corporation or other entity and such corporation
or other entity agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions of this Agreement;
(c) decompile, disassemble, or reverse engineer the Software, in whole or in part;
(d) modify the Software or any part thereof, except to the extent that the Software provides for user-modifiable
components and such modification is necessary to Use the Software;
(e) write or develop any derivative software or any other software program based upon the Software or any
part thereof, or any Confidential Information;
5. LICENSE FEE
5.1 LICENSE FEE. You shall pay the license fees for the Software applicable at the time of purchase (the "License
Fee"). All fees hereunder exclude all applicable sales, use, value-added, property and other taxes, including
duties and similar mandatory payments, and You will be responsible for payment of all such.
5.2 NO OFFSET. License Fees due from You under this Agreement may not be withheld or offset by You against
other amounts due to You for any reason.
8. INDEMNIFICATION
8.1 INFRINGEMENT INDEMNITY. AGFA represents it has no reason to believe that the Software infringes upon
any copyright or any other intellectual property right of any third party. In the event of a claim that the
Software infringes upon, or violates, a third party's copyright AGFA will indemnify and hold You harmless
against any action brought against You based on a claim that the unmodified Software, when used in accor-
dance with this Agreement, infringes a European copyright, patent or other proprietary rights, and AGFA
shall pay all costs, settlements and damages finally awarded, except for consequential damages. However,
AGFA will not be obligated to indemnify or hold You harmless from any such action unless You (i) notify
AGFA in writing of any claim within 10 (ten) business days after You learn of such a claim, (ii) give AGFA
sole control of the defence and settlement thereof, (iii) provide all reasonable assistance in connection with
the defence and settlement thereof, and (iv) have not yet compromised or settled in any way any such
losses, claims or damages for which indemnity is sought. If the Software is finally adjudged to so infringe,
or in AGFA's opinion is likely to become the subject of such a claim, AGFA shall, at its sole option expense,
either (1) apply its best efforts to procure for You the right to continue using the Software, or (2) apply its
best efforts to modify or replace the Software to make it non-infringing, or, if neither (1) or (2) is commer-
cially practicable (3) terminate this Agreement, and repay to You a portion of the License Fee equal to the
amount paid by You less reasonable depreciation. AGFA shall have no liability regarding any infringement
claim arising out of: (i) use of other than a current, unaltered release of the Software; (ii) Use of the
Software in combination with non-AGFA software, data or equipment, if the infringement was caused by
the Use of such combination; (iii) any modification or derivation of the Software not specifically authorised
in writing by AGFA; or (iv) use of third party software.
8.2 EXCLUSIVE REMEDY. The foregoing states the entire liability of AGFA and the exclusive remedy for You
with respect to infringement of any patent, copyright, trade secret or other proprietary right.
9. CONFIDENTIALITY
9.1 CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION. Each party acknowledges that the Confidential Information constitutes
valuable trade secrets and each party agrees that it shall use Confidential Information solely in accordance
with the provisions of this Agreement and will not disclose, or permit to be disclosed, the same, directly or
indirectly, to any third party without the other party's prior written consent. Each party agrees to exercise
due care in protecting the Confidential Information from unauthorised use and disclosure. However,
neither party bears any responsibility for safeguarding information that (i) is publicly available, (ii) already
in the other party's possession and not subject to a confidentiality obligation, (iii) obtained by the other
party from third parties without restrictions on disclosure, (iv) independently developed by the other party
without reference to Confidential Information, or (v) required to be disclosed by order of a court or other
governmental entity.
9.2 INJUNCTIVE RELIEF. In the event of actual or threatened breach of the provisions of Section 8.1, the non-
breaching party will have no adequate remedy at law and will be entitled to immediate and injunctive and
other equitable relief, without bond and without the necessity of showing actual money damages.
10.3 EFFECT OF TERMINATION. Upon expiration or termination of this Agreement, You shall promptly
uninstall and return to AGFA the Software, any derivative works, all copies thereof, including computer
memory or storage copies, the associated Dongle, all related Documentation and all copies thereof, and any
other Confidential Information in Your possession. You shall furnish AGFA with a certificate signed by an
executive officer verifying that the same has been done. Termination or Expiration will not affect the provi-
sions regarding the treatment of Confidential Information, provisions relating to the payment of amounts
due, or provisions limiting or disclaiming AGFA's liability, which provisions will survive termination of this
Agreement.
10.4 NON-ASSIGNMENT. Neither this Agreement nor any rights under this Agreement may be assigned or
otherwise transferred by You, in whole or in part, whether voluntary or by operation of law, including by
way of sale of assets, merger or consolidation, without the prior written consent of AGFA, which consent
will not be unreasonably withheld or delayed. Subject to the foregoing, this Agreement will be binding
upon and will inure to the benefit of the parties and their respective successors and assigns.
11. MISCELLANEOUS
11.1 WAIVER. Any waiver of the provisions of this Agreement or of a party's rights or remedies under this Agree-
ment must be in writing to be effective. Failure, neglect, or delay by a party to enforce the provisions of this
Agreement or its rights or remedies at any time, will not be construed and will not be deemed to be a waiver
of such party's rights under this Agreement and will not in any way affect the validity of the whole or any
part of this Agreement or prejudice such party's right to take subsequent action. Except as expressly stated
in this Agreement, no exercise or enforcement by either party of any right or remedy under this Agreement
will preclude the enforcement by such party of any other right or remedy under this Agreement or that such
party is entitled by law to enforce.
11.2 SEVERABILITY. If any provision, or part of any provision, of this Agreement is invalidated by operation of
law or otherwise, that provision or part will to that extent be deemed omitted and the remainder of this
Agreement, or applicable attachment, will remain in full force and effect. In place of any such invalid provi-
sion or part thereof, the parties hereto undertake to agree on a similar but valid provision the effect of which
is as close as possible to that of the invalid provision or part thereof. If the parties fail to agree on such an
amendment, such invalid term, condition or provision will be severed from the remaining terms, conditions
and provisions, which will continue to be valid and enforceable to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11.3 STANDARD TERMS. No terms, provisions or conditions of any purchase order, acknowledgement or other
business form that You may use in connection with the licensing of the Software will have any effect on the
rights, duties or obligations of the parties under, or otherwise modify, this Agreement, regardless of any
failure of AGFA to object to such terms, provisions or conditions.
11.4 RIGHT TO AUDIT. AGFA shall have the right upon its expense to inspect compliance of You with this Agree-
ment, upon a ten (10) working days prior written notice. Such audit shall not be more frequently than once
per year, during normal business hours by an accounting firm designated by AGFA. In the event such audit
should reveal a substantial non-compliance with this Agreement, You shall reimburse AGFA for the full out-
of-pocket costs in respect of any professional charges incurred for such audit or inspection, in addition to
any other right or remedy available to AGFA hereunder.
11.5 AMENDMENTS TO THIS AGREEMENT. This Agreement may not be amended, except by a writing signed
by both parties.
11.6 HEADINGS: Headings to the sections of this Agreement are for convenience only and shall not affect the
interpretation or construction of this Agreement. Use of the singular includes the plural and vice versa.
11.7 AGFA'S PRIOR CONSENT. Unless expressly provided otherwise in this Agreement, any prior consent of
AGFA that is required before You may take an action may be granted or withheld in AGFA's sole and
absolute discretion.
11.8 THIRD PARTY BENEFICIARY. If and insofar parts of the Software are supplied and licensed to AGFA by
Other Owners, such Other Owners are third party beneficiaries of this Agreement and are with respect to
such parts of the Software entitled to enforce directly against You the terms and conditions of this License
Agreement.
11.9 APPLICABLE LAW. This Agreement is made in Belgium and shall be governed by and construed in accor-
dance with the laws of Belgium, excluding its rules for choice of law.
11.10 PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS. You acknowledge that AGFA may desire to use Your name in press releases,
product brochures and financial reports indicating that You are a customer of AGFA, and You agree that
AGFA may use Your name in such a manner.
11.11 ENTIRE AGREEMENT. This Agreement (including any addenda hereto signed by both parties) contains the
entire agreement of the parties with respect to the subject matter of this Agreement and supersedes all
previous communications, representations, understandings and agreements, either oral or written,
between the parties with respect to said subject matter.

Licensing
:APOGEE Prepress is dongle-protected, using a USB dongle. The dongle is
supplied with the :APOGEE Prepress Starter Kit when you purchase your
:APOGEE Prepress System. The dongle has a serial ID number. To use :APOGEE
Prepress, you will also need a license key. The license key is a unique file that is
generated via the Agfa Licensing Portal, and is linked to your dongle ID number.
You can purchase extra licenses to enable additional functionality.
NOTE: The Satellite Server does not need a dongle, since the :APOGEE Prepress
Satellite software is registered to the :APOGEE Prepress Server System.
2 Installing :APOGEE
Prepress
This section explains how to install the :APOGEE Prepress Server, Satellite and
Failover Servers, as well as the Client applications and additional components.
31
32 BEFORE STARTING THE INSTALLATION
If you are using multiple network cards, check the network card order.
:APOGEE Prepress registers on the first network card. You should not change
the order of the network cards after installation, since this will prevent
:APOGEE Prepress from starting up.
The computer name on which you install :APOGEE Prepress should use only
the following characters: a-z, A-Z, 0-9. The name should not contain spaces,
dashes, underscores, or names longer than 14 characters since some DNS
servers do not support these characters.
Have your :APOGEE Prepress dongle ready, but do not yet connect it to your
server.
When performing a new install (not an upgrade) make sure that you remove
any previous :ApogeeX or :APOGEE Prepress software (TomCat, Registration
Utility, SQL Express or Server, :APOGEE Prepress/ApogeeX Clients). Also
make sure that all apogeedatastore folders and apogee shares are removed.
NOTE: Windows 2003 platforms are not used for new installations, only for 32-
bit upgrades.
The :APOGEE Prepress installer will first install some Microsoft prerequisites if
necessary (Windows Installer 4.5, Windows redistributables and Windows.net).
This file is located in the root of the shared folder to which you copied the
:APOGEE Prepress DVD 1.
2 Click Next.
Here, you should select the product type that you have purchased (see
“:APOGEE Prepress Products” on page 18). In the example above, we are
installing :APOGEE Prepress Integrate.
NOTE: Components that can be installed more than once remain available in
the column on the left.
For more information, refer to “List of Components” on page 19, and to the
:APOGEE Prepress Release Notes which list the supported :APOGEE Prepress
components.
7 Click Next.
9 Select the Input Task Processors you require, and click Next.
10 Select the Processing Task Processors you require, and click Next.
NOTE: Move the C: drive from the Use column on the right to the Do not use
column by clicking the grey arrow button.
12 Click Next.
13 Select the HTTP port number that you want to use for the TomCat
WebServer. You can accept the default port number (80).
14 Click Next.
For the Folder allocations, the installer uses an automatic disk selection
algorithm.
15 To change the folder allocations and/or the :APOGEE Prepress system name,
select the ‘I want to change these settings’ check box, and click Next.
NOTE: Do not confuse the :APOGEE Prepress System with the :APOGEE
Prepress Server: The :APOGEE Prepress System comprises all system
hardware modules, including the :APOGEE Prepress Server and one or more
Satellite Servers; The :APOGEE Prepress Server is a single hardware module
which runs the core :APOGEE Prepress software.
Prepress Satellite

17 Click Next.
PDF and PostScript Storage: For input files and processed PDF and PS
files.
NOTE: Instead of local disks, you can also select remote disk locations
(mounted via drive letters).
19 Click Next.
20 Click Install.
NOTE: If your server has an output device interface card, :APOGEE Prepress
automatically starts to install the necessary drivers. In this case, click Yes and
then Next to install them.
The install time depends on the number of Task Processors you selected in
the Installer, and on your hardware configuration. When it is finished, you
will see the following window.
From here, you can launch the Client Installer (see, “Installing :APOGEE
Prepress Clients” on page 66).
The second check box is selected by default. This confirms that statistical
data will be automatically retrieved from your configuration and sent to Agfa
during off-peak times.
21 Click Finish.
22 Click Yes.
This is the Configuration file, which can be used to create an identical instal-
lation (see “Installing :APOGEE Prepress based on a Configuration File” on
page 46).
The information displayed indicates what has been installed and when.
You can add and remove components on both an :APOGEE Prepress Server and
on a Satellite Server.
This file is located in the root of the shared folder to which you copied the
:APOGEE Prepress DVD 1.
3 Click Next.
Task Processors that are already installed are displayed on the right.
To add components: Select any additional hi-res output devices you want
to install in the Available devices column, and click the Add button to add
them to the Selected devices column.
For more information, refer to “List of Components” on page 19, and to the
:APOGEE Prepress Release Notes which list the supported :APOGEE Prepress
components.
NOTE: You can open jobs, tickets, or ticket templates which use components
that you have uninstalled but they will be removed from the production flow.
6 Click Next.
The folder allocations of components which were already installed must not
be changed. However, you may change the folder allocations of components
which you are adding during this install.
10 Make sure that the ‘I want to change these settings’ check box is deselected,
and click Next.
11 Click Install.
When the installation is finished, you will see the following window.
12 Click Finish.
NOTE: A configuration file install does not import the configuration settings of
the original system, nor the configuration settings of the Task Processors. You
can use the Configuration Manager to import these.
This file is located in the root of the shared folder to which you copied the
:APOGEE Prepress DVD 1.
2 Click Next.
The most recent :APOGEE Prepress Server configuration file can be found in
the Database backup folder of the existing :APOGEE Prepress Server. This file
has the following format:
CAUTION: Make sure you select the correct xml file: An :APOGEE Prepress
Satellite also has an xml file. The Satellite xml format is:
Satellite_<Satellite computer name>_<date>_<time>.xml.
7 Click Next.
8 Select the HTTP port number that you want to use for the TomCat
WebServer. You can accept the default port number (80).
9 Click Next.
11 Enter a different name for your :APOGEE Prepress system, and click Next.
12 Click Install to begin the installation. When the installation is finished, you
are asked to restart your computer.
When you start the :APOGEE Prepress Client, you will see the “satellite”
Hardware server icons in the Hardware pane. The Hardware server that is
highlighted in bold is the :APOGEE Prepress Server, which is running the “core”
:APOGEE Prepress System software.
NOTE: After installing a Satellite Server, you can later install additional
components, as described in “Installing/Uninstalling Individual Components”
on page 42.
Before You Begin The :APOGEE Prepress System must be running, although it does not yet
need to be licensed.
Make sure that the :APOGEE Prepress Satellite has a working network which
allows communication with the :APOGEE Prepress Server.
Multiple Satellite Servers: You can install as many Satellite Servers as you
need, although you will need the full SQL Server license if you use more than
one Satellite Server.
Make sure that the name of the computer on which you are going to install
the Satellite uses only the characters a-z, A-Z, or 0-9. The name must not
contain dashes, underscores or spaces, since some DNS servers do not
support these characters.
You are advised to use the same Windows username and password on the
Satellite Server as on the :APOGEE Prepress Server.
When performing a new installation (not an upgrade) make sure that you
remove any previous :ApogeeX or :APOGEE Prepress software (TomCat,
Registration Utility, SQL Express or Server, :APOGEE Prepress/:ApogeeX
Clients). Also make sure that all apogeedatastore folders and apogee shares
are removed.
CAUTION: Do not try to install multiple Satellite Servers at the same time. You
should install them one by one. You should only proceed with a second
Satellite installation when the first one has been completed.
This file is located in the root of the shared folder to which you copied the
:APOGEE Prepress DVD 1.
2 Click Next.
5 Select ‘Satellite - an auxiliary server to the Main Server’, and click Next.
Here, you have the option to install a Satellite based on a configuration file
(from a previous Satellite installation which was installed with the same
version of software).
The Connect via IP Address option can be used if your :APOGEE Prepress
System does not automatically appear (typically when there is a router
between the Server and the Satellite). In this case, select the check box and
enter the IP Address of the :APOGEE Prepress Server.
8 Click Next.
9 Select the hi-res output devices you want to install on the Satellite.

The Satellite system can have a Local storage server when using a High
Resolution Output Device. This is a service which keeps track of where the
data is stored. If you do not install a Local storage server, then the data will
be stored on the :APOGEE Prepress Server.
If you install a Local storage service on the Satellite, you will also need the
Preview service in order to view raster data from this Satellite.
16 Click Next.

20 Select the disks you want to use to store your data, and click Next.
21 Click Install.
When the installation is complete, you will see the following window.
23 Click Yes.
The information displayed indicates what has been installed and when.
This file can be used to re-install the Satellite or to install another Satellite for
the same :APOGEE Prepress System, using identical Task Processors. In both
cases you would use the ‘Satellite Configuration File’ installer option rather
then Manual Configuration.
NOTE: SQL 2008 Native Client is also installed when installing an :APOGEE
Prepress Satellite.
Make sure that the Failover operating system is identical to the :APOGEE
Prepress Server operating system.
Make sure that the Failover hard disk configuration is identical to the
:APOGEE Prepress Server hard disk configuration. The hard disks must have
at least the same capacity as the :APOGEE Prepress Server hard disks.
Copy the :APOGEE Prepress DVDs to your computer’s hard drive (9.5 GB)
before starting the installer. The DVDs have a very deep directory structure.
The DVDs cannot therefore be copied to any location on your hard disk. You
should create a folder on the root of your hard disk, and copy the DVD
contents there. Make sure that this folder is shared.
You can find the most recent configuration file on the :APOGEE Prepress
Server System, in the database backup folder on the :APOGEE Prepress
Server. The configuration file includes information regarding the installed
Task Processors on the server.
You may find more than one configuration xml file, since each time you
modify the :APOGEE Prepress Server, a new xml file is created.
CAUTION: Make sure you select the correct xml file: An :APOGEE Prepress
Satellite also has an xml file. The Satellite xml format is:
Satellite_<Satellite computer name>_<date>_<time>.xml.
This file is located in the root of the folder to which you copied the :APOGEE
Prepress DVD 1.
3 Click Next.
You can also install a Failover and Satellite together. This procedure is a
combination of the separate installations of Satellite and Failover Servers.

then new :APOGEE Prepress Clients, including Qms (Windows), must be used.
NOTE: A grayed out :APOGEE Prepress system in the Client logon window
indicates that your Client software is not compatible with the :APOGEE Prepress
System software.
2 Click Next.
3 Select ‘I accept the terms in the license agreement’, and click Next.
6 Select whether or not you want to install the Apogee PlateMaker Client and
QMS Client.
7 Click Next.
NOTE: The Acrobat Plug-ins feature is only visible if a valid version of Adobe
Acrobat is detected on the system.

telling you that it is not online, and requesting whether you want to continue.
Click Yes to continue removing the software.
NOTE: We recommend that you have the Server online when uninstalling a
Satellite in order to unregister the Satellite from the :APOGEE Prepress
System. However, you could continue removing the software without having
the Server online. This will not unregister the Satellite from the :APOGEE
Prepress System and will require additional actions. See “Unregistering
Satellite Services on the :APOGEE Prepress Server” on page 92 and
“Unregistering Satellite Task Processors” on page 95.
4 When the programs have been removed, close the Programs and Features
window.
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Agfa\Prepress<version
no.>.prf)
NOTE: The Application Data folder may be a hidden folder: You therefore
need to show hidden files and folders in your operating system settings.
6 If you copied the plug-ins manually, you have to remove them manually - the
Installer will not remove them. You should manually delete them from the
Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat\plug_ins\Extensions folder.
...Users\<username>\Library\Preferences\Agfa\Prepress <version
no>Preferences.
Some :APOGEE Prepress components will have failed to start. These are the
services from the Satellite Server. These services should be removed from the
:APOGEE Prepress Server using the Service Tool.
CAUTION: Commands in the Service Tool are case-sensitive. You must enter
the name EXACTLY as it appears in the :APOGEE Prepress Manager.
8 Press Enter.
10 Repeat the procedure from step 6 for all Services that were installed for the
Satellite (i.e. all services displayed in italics, without a green checkmark).
This section explains how to unregister the Satellite Task Processors using the
Service Tool.
2 Start the :APOGEE Prepress Client, and open the System Overview window.
3 Select the Satellite Hardware Server that you previously uninstalled, but
which is still registered in the :APOGEE Prepress database.
11 Press Enter.
The Service Tool indicates that the selected Task Processor has been
removed.
13 Look in the System Overview - you should see that the Task Processor icon
has been removed from the Satellite.
14 Repeat this procedure for all Task Processors that were installed on the
Satellite.

100 UPGRADING THE :APOGEE PREPRESS SYSTEM
6 Installation Issues
This section explains how to resolve a number of problems that you may experi-
ence while performing an installation of the :APOGEE Prepress System.
101
102 INSTALLER IS HALTED
Installer is Halted
The installer may stop working if you perform other actions on the system on
which you are installing :APOGEE Prepress. We therefore strongly recommend
that you do not do anything else on the system during installation. You should
also leave the installer running in the foreground.
3 Put the loopback adapter to the top of the list of available connections.
However, you can change the order of the network cards as described below.
NOTE: This procedure is valid for the :APOGEE Prepress System as well as for the
:APOGEE Prepress Windows Clients.
3 Use the arrows to move the Network connection on which :APOGEE Prepress
needs to register to the top of the list.
In the Contents tab you should see the serial number of the USB Wibu dongle
if it is connected properly.
NOTE: The :APOGEE Prepress Installer requires disks to have at least 8 GB of free
disk space.
In this case, first manually uninstall the old Client version, and afterwards install
the new Client.
This message typically indicates that the :APOGEE Prepress DVD copies on your
hard disk are marked as Read-Only.
2 If the Attributes column contains an “R” then the folders/files are Read-Only.
Sometimes the above procedure does not work. Another way is to clear the
Read-Only attribute via the command line utility: ‘attrib -R *.* /s /d’.
You can ignore this error and simply reapply the updates (hot fixes) with
UpdateManager in order to fix this situation.
NOTE: The hot fixes automatically have the out of date status in the Update
Manager client when an additional Task Processor is installed.
You can continue despite these errors as they don't cause further issues.
This is a very minor issue because there is a Continue button and the user cannot
do anything wrong.
