Dear Bashar Masad, Thank you for giving me the opportunity to apologize for my conduct on November 18, 2018. At approximately 8:29 pm, | attended your residence to speak with your son, Masood, in regards to an altercation, earlier that evening, with the staff and owner of Shawarma Royale restaurant. You invited me into your residence to discuss the matter which, | accepted but | could not disclose the event details in order to not infringe on Masood’s privacy. During my time in your residence your interactions with me were calm, courteous, and polite. It is to my regret,| did not return the same re- spect that you accorded to me to your son and | apologize for this. | apologize for words | used about your wife during the transportation of Masood to 11 Division. Upon entering your residence, | did not notice any cultural art, sym- bols, or texts that indicated your ethnicity or culture. My conversation with Masood in the residence and during the transportation was fuelled by emo- tional frustration, not from any prejudice against your ethnicity or culture. |. myself, am the son of poor immigrants and understand the hardships of transitioning from one culture to another. | take the time to mention this so that your heart may be clear of the thought that | have any hatred or malice towards your ethnicity or culture. | apologize for the experience you had with me as a Peel Regional Police officer. My actions, were not and are not, a reflection of the Peel Regional Police Organization, nor the culture in the organization. Instead they represented me at a certain point in my life. | do apologize for any hardship or humiliation | may have caused you or your wife through my words. | have reflected and critiqued my actions and behaviour which, has enlightened my personal view on life and approach to conflict and hasmade me realize this - “I am the Master of my thoughts, but a Slave to my words.” | ask for your forgiveness as part of my atonement.
