Check the high-beam headlamps in the “flash-to-
pass” mode. -

1. Check for a short circuit. Repair it if necessary.

Use a voltmeter to check for power to the fuses
EF34 and EF29.

reading on the ohmmeter.

5. Connect an ohmmeter between terminals 4 and
6 of the headlamp switch. Observe the reading on
the ohmmeter.
Does the ohmmeter show the specified value for

HEADLAMP LEVELING
Headlamps Leveling System Does Not Work
Check the headlamps.
Do the headlamps work?
Repair the headlamp system before completing this

Has the headlamp system been repaired? Go to Step 3
Is either of the fuses blown?
4 2. Replace the blown fuse. - -
5 2. Check the voltage at fuses EF31 and EF26.
Is the specified voltage available at the fuses? 11-14 v Go to Step 7 Go to Step 6

1. Disconnect the electrical connectors at the
headlamp leveling motors.
7 3. Check the voltage at terminal C of the headlamp
leveling motors.
Is the specified voltage available at both headlamp

Repair the open circuit between fuses EF31 and
8 EF26 and the headlamp leveling motors. - -
With the headlamp leveling motors disconnected,
check the resistance between ground and terminal A
9 of the headlamp leveling motor connector.

Repair the ground circuit for the headlamp leveling

2. With the headlamp leveling motors disconnected,
check the voltage at terminal B of the headlamp
11 leveling motor connector.
Is the voltage approximately equal the specified
value? 6.2-10.6 v Go to Step 17 Go to Step 12
1. Disconnect the headlamp leveling and dimmer
control switch.

3. Check the voltage at the LT BLU wire at the
headlamp leveling switch connector.

Repair the open circuit between the headlamp relay
13 and the headlamp leveling and dimmer switch. - -

Headlamps Leveling System Does Not Work (Cont’d)

1. Remove the headlamp leveling and dimmer
switch.
2. Use an ohmmeter to check the resistance
between the two terminals on the lower row of
terminals. (There are three terminals on the lower
row, but only two of them connect to wires at the

connector. Connect the ohmmeter to the switch
terminals corresponding to the LT BLU and DK
GRN connector wires.)
As the headlamp leveling thumbwheel is changed
from position “0” to position “3,” does the resistance
change smoothly within the specified value? [ 440-850 W Go to Step 16 Go to Step 15
Replace the headlamp leveling and dimmer switch.

FOG LAMPS
Diagnostic Aids
The front fog lamp switch is powered by the headlamp switch, so the fog lamps may not operate if the headlamps or
taillamps will not turn ON.
Front Fog Lamps Do Not Work on Either Side

Check the headlamps and the exterior lamps.
Are the headlamps and the exterior lamps working?
Repair the headlamps and exterior lamp systems
2 before continuing with this diagnostic table. - -
Is the repair complete? Go to Step 3
Check fuse EF37.
Is fuse EF37 blown?
4 2. Replace fuse EF37. - -
Use a voltmeter to check if battery voltage is
5 available at fuse EF37.
Does the voltmeter indicate the specified value? 11-14 v Go to Step 7 Go to Step 6
Repair the power supply to fuse EF37.
6 - System OK -
1. Disconnect the connectors at the front fog lamps.
7 between ground and the BLK wire at the fog
lamps.
Repair the open ground circuit for the front fog

1. With the fog lamps disconnected, turn the front
fog lamps to the ON position.

3. Check the voltage at the PPL wire at the front fog
lamp connectors.
Replace the fog lamp bulbs.
10 - System OK -
1. Temporarily substitute the exterior illumination
relay (taillamp relay) in place of the front fog lamp
relay.
11 2. Turn the headlamps ON. -
3. Turn the front fog lamp switch to the ON position.
Do the front fog lamps work with the substituted

1. Return the substituted relay to its original position,
but do not reinstall the front fog lamp relay at this
time.
13 2. Use a voltmeter to probe each of the four
terminals in the front fog lamp relay socket.
Does one of the four terminals in the relay socket
indicate the specified value? 11-14 v Go to Step 15 Go to Step 14

3. Probe the front fog lamp relay socket with the
voltmeter.

Besides the terminal which indicated battery voltage
in Step 13, does another terminal in the relay socket
(relay coil positive terminal) now indicate the

ground terminal at the front fog lamp relay socket.
(The ground terminal at the relay socket is
21 diagonally opposite from the relay coil positive
terminal which was identified in Step 15.)
Repair the ground circuit for the front fog lamp relay.
22 - System OK -
Repair the open circuit between the front fog lamp
23 relay and the front fog lamps. - -

Rear Fog Lamps Do Not Work on Either Side

Diagnostic Aids
The rear fog lamp relay coil is powered by the headlamp relay, so the rear fog lamps may not work if the headlamps do
not work.

Check the headlamps and the exterior lamps.
Are the headlamps and the exterior lamps working?
Repair the headlamps and exterior lamp systems
2 before continuing with this diagnostic table. - -
Is the repair complete? Go to Step 3
Check fuses EF1 and F11.
Is fuse EF1 or fuse F11 blown?
4 2. Replace fuse EF1 or F11 as necessary. - -
5 available at fuse EF1.
Repair the power supply to fuse EF1.
6 - System OK -
7 available at fuse F11.
Repair the open circuit between fuse EF1 and fuse
8 F11. - -
1. Disconnect the connectors at the rear fog lamps.
9 between ground and the BLK wire at the rear fog
lamps.
Repair the open ground circuit for the rear fog

1. With the rear fog lamps disconnected, turn the
rear fog lamps to the ON position.

3. Check the voltage at the RED wire at the rear fog
lamp connectors.
Replace the rear fog lamp bulbs.
12 - System OK -
1. Temporarily substitute the exterior illumination
relay (taillamp relay) in place of the rear fog lamp
relay.
13 2. Turn the headlamps ON. -
3. Turn the rear fog lamp switch to the ON position.
Do the rear fog lamps work with the substituted

terminals in the rear fog lamp relay socket.

Repair the open circuit between fuse F11 and
16 terminal 30 of the rear fog lamp relay. - -
2. Turn the rear fog lamp switch to the ON position.
3. Probe the rear fog lamp relay socket with the
voltmeter.

Repair the open circuit between the headlamp relay

connect an ohmmeter between terminals 1 and

Replace the rear fog lamp switch.

Repair the open circuit between terminal 4 of the
rear fog lamp switch and terminal 85 of the rear fog - -
22 lamp relay.
Check the resistance between ground and the
ground terminal at the rear fog lamp relay socket.
(The ground terminal at the relay socket is
23 diagonally opposite from the relay coil positive
terminal which was identified in Step 17.)
Repair the ground circuit for the rear fog lamp relay.
24 - System OK -
Repair the open circuit between the rear fog lamp

2. Use a voltmeter to check voltage at the bulb

1. Block the wheels.

6. Test the lamp socket positive terminal with a
voltmeter.
Does the battery voltage available at the backup lamp
