BONES
1. Cells
The bone is composed of four
cell types:
a. Osteogenic Cellss
b. Osteoblasts
c. Osteocytes
d. Osteoclast
a. Osteogenic Cells– Located in the inner
layer of the periosteum and by
differentiation, they give rise to osteoblast.
b. Osteoblasts – they are bone secreting cells
and line the trabecular surfaces of the
bone
c. Osteocytes – maintains integrity of the
bone by supplying nutrient derived from the
blood vessels in the canaliculi.
d. Osteoclast – derived from the fusing of
osteocytes and is located in the Howship’s
lacuna at the bone surface.
Composition of Bones:
2. Osteoid
A non-mineral matrix of
collagen and glycosaminoglycan.
3. Inorganic mineral salt deposited
within the matrix.
