TEMA A. COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS.

COUNTABLE NOUNS.
Countable nouns are for things we can count using numbers. They have a singular and a
plural form. The singular form can use “a” or “an” if you want to ask about the quantity of a
countable noun you ask “How many” combined with the plural countable noun.
Examples: one dog - two dogs
One house – three houses.
- She has three dogs.
- I buy a house.
- I would like two books please.
- How many friends do you have?

UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

Uncountable nouns are for the things that we cannot count with numbers. Uncountable nouns
are used with singular verb. They usually do not have a plural form.
Examples:
Tea, sugar, water, air, beauty.

To express a quantity of an uncountable noun, use a word or expression like some, a lot of,
much, a bit of, or a measurement like a cup, a bag of, 1kg of, 1L, a spoon of, a box of.

Examples:
Can you give me some information about uncountable nouns?
He didn`t need much sugar.
I need 1 cup of water.
How much rice do you want?

HOW MUCH……..? HOW MANY…..?

HOW MUCH + UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS HOW MANY + PLURAL COUNTABLE NOUNS

How much mayonnaise is there? How many cookies are there?


There`s one jar of mayonnaise. There are three cookies.
Use How much…? To ask about uncountable Use how many….? To ask about plural countable
nouns nouns.

TEMA B. MODALS VERBS.

SHOULD: it expresses advice (should significa debe y expresa consejo)

COULD, MAY AND MIGHT

Could (past form of can)

Describes an ability that someone had in the past:

 I could swim when I was young.

Often used in auxiliary functions to express permission politely:

May

Used to ask for formal permission:


(Utilizado para pedir permiso formalmente)

 May I come in?


 May I say something now?
 May I ask one question?

Used to suggest something that is possible:

 She may agree with this plan.


 They may not be happy about what happened.
 It may shower tonight.

Might (past form of may)

Used to suggest a smaller possibility than may does (actually, might is more common
than may in American English) (Utilizado para sugerir una pequeña posibilidad)

 He might have finished it.


 I might go see a doctor.
 I might not come this time.
 It might be right.
 You might have lost it.
 The store might have been closed today.
