One Bus away

THE LABORATORY FOR USABILITY @ PENN STATE BEHREND

Summary
The Website of One Bus Away wanted to improve their website to know where
participants prefer time or distance when using their app. So, our team created
two prototypes one using time and one using distance. The prototypes were the
same except for that the wording.

The Test found minor problems including:


 More description of the bus stops
 More Bus availability/ Time
 Search Box to work
 Kmart wasn’t on B test

Methodology

Test days: December 16th 2019- April 23rd, 2020
Test location: Erie, PA
Test device: Windows 10, Chrome browser
Test website: OneBusaway.com

Participants
The participants in this research are students from Penn State Behrend. They are students
that volunteered in exchange for course credit. There were five participants were tested.
There were 3 Female Participants and One Male participant. Ranging from the ages of
19-20 years old.

Questionnaire results
All participants finished the first task, (Which was to Find the Millcreek mall on
peach street. This task some participants long than others to complete. The
Second task had 40% completion rate ( Find the Kmart). Participants had a
completion rate of 100% on Third task which was to find the Walmart.
Participants had no trouble finishing the fourth task of finding Tinseltown movie
theater. Lastly task five was finished by all participants and that task was to return
to Behrend. Things that could be implement to the website to help make it better
include making descriptions of Bus stops more descriptive, Maps were
occasionally blurry and one participant want more bus availability not just one
bus.

Conclusion
Participants wanted a help function and tutorials. They rated the application as
useful and easy to remember on the questionnaire. Participants found the website
useful and they would use the website. Having a tutorial and a help function for
participants will ensure that more users will continue to use the website.
Implementing these features will help make this website more applicable to new
users also.
