1. Emotions/Feelings
A. One of the example situations which I think is relevant today is, when a fortunate individual
saw personally or digitally the struggles of the marginalized people in dealing with the major
effects of COVID19 in their lives. The individual felt empathy towards them. In result, she
decided to donate basic necessities such as goods, medications, and money to help those
people who greatly suffered in the pandemic.

B. Another thing is when a person is walking towards his home in the middle of the night from
work, he suddenly felt as if someone is following him. He felt scared. Thus, he decided to
ride a taxi instead. And while he’s in the car, he saw the man who was following him and
decided to walk away.

2. On reason and Impartiality

A. A timely example situation I can think of is when a person avoids racism. A certain white
person strongly believes that everyone should be treated equally regardless of the color of
their skin. Thus, he respects the people in the black community and supports them all the
way by advocating “Black Lives Matter”.

B. Also, when a company is providing a yearly Christmas treat for all employees instead of
merely selected employees by giving goods and letting them decide what date should be
their day-off.

Take situations in which impartiality relates to the distribution of goods or other benefits, such as
whom to hire as an employee and who should get what amount of some resource, scarce or otherwise,
and those pertaining to deciding who ought to shoulder some burden, such as where to build a prison or
where to put a landfill.

We can also take the focus to be conflicts of the roles agents occupy, such as those situations in which
the role of parent conflicts with the role of coach, the role of judge conflicts with the role of neighbor,
and the role of friend conflicts with the role of employer or employee. Further, each situation given
above is just an example, and these examples hardly scratch the surface of the body of the examples
available to discussions of impartiality.
