Dear Parent/Guardian,

Our school is currently hosting Mr Murphy, a PME student from the Department of
Education of Maynooth University, on school placement.

As part of the coursework, the Mr Murphy is requested to video record a lesson that will be
shared with his placement tutor, course leader and school placement officer in Maynooth
University. Images or any personal data of your child will not be recorded. The purpose of
the recording is to support the student teacher in the development of teaching skills and to
assess his ability in teaching, learning and assessment. A recording is being used rather
than relying only on visits to the school by placement tutors due to Covid-19
restrictions. The recording will take place before the end of May 2021.

The recording device will be directed at the student teacher and will not include video image
of your child, but may include audio of your child’s voice if he/she speaks during the class.
The recording will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and stored on a secure
password protected Maynooth University platform. It will be destroyed once used for
support and assessment purposes.

GDPR requires that where data is collected people should be informed why it is being
collected, managed securely and that it will not be held longer than necessary. If you have
concerns about the recording, please contact and we will address these. We would like to
offer our assurance that the procedures for recording the lesson are appropriate and have
been carefully planned to ensure compliance with best practice. If I do not hear back from
you, I understand that you are happy for the class to be recorded.
