PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT, HEALTH and

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
 
Semester 1 

Theory – My World, My Identity

Students explore the challenges of transitioning into high school and the support
services available in the school setting. They explore and investigate the concepts of
health practices and behaviours to enable their growth in understanding of the
significance of wellbeing to their development. 

Theory – Eat Right, Live Strong

Students explore the dynamic relationship between physical activity, nutrition and
health. They analyse how to plan for a balanced lifestyle. Student focus on the
development of decision making capacity in two important contexts– healthy food
habits and physical activity.  

Practical -  Balancing Act  

Students enhance their knowledge and understanding of body control and


awareness through a range gymnastics movements. Students develop expertise in
support techniques, understanding of biomechanics and weight bearing activities. .

Practical -  Faster, Higher, Stronger

Students enhance their health and fitness through their participation in a range of
athletic activities. Students prepare for the whole school cross country and athletics
events.

Learning Outcomes: 

PD4-1 Examines and evaluates strategies to manage current and future challenges
PD4-4 Refines, applies and transfers movement skills in a variety of dynamic
physical activity contexts
PD4-11 Demonstrates how movement skills and concepts can be adapted and
transferred to enhance and perform movement sequences
 
Semester 2 

Theory – Changes in Me

Students focus on the physical, social and emotional changes that are experienced
during puberty. Topics include reproductive health, body image and personal
hygiene. 

Theory – Why Risk it


Students examine the implications of risk taking behaviours and strategies to reduce
harm. With a focus on both positive and negative risk behaviour in relationships,
road safety and water safety.  

Practical - Moving and Grooving 

Students learn how to choreograph and develop complex movement sequences and
explore the features and elements of composition.  

Practical – Get Active – Team Games

Students develop their skills in a range of invasion games and explore tactical
decision making through defensive and offensive play in a variety of game
situations. 

Learning Outcomes: 

PD4-2 Examines and demonstrates the roll help seeking strategies and behaviours
play in supporting themselves and others
PD4-5 Transfers and adapts solutions to complex movement challenges
PD4-11 Demonstrates how movement skills and concepts can be adapted and transferred to
enhance and perform movement sequences
