PHYSICAL EDUCATION 12

This module aims to guide the learners to adopt an active life for fitness and lifelong health. The
knowledge, skills and understanding which include physical and health literacy competencies support
them in accessing, synthesizing, and evaluating information; making informed decisions; enhancing and
advocating their own as well as others’ fitness and health. This module includes rhythmical movement

patterns, the promotion and appreciation of Philippine folk dance, indigenous and traditional dances as
well as other dance forms. It consists of an array of offerings which learners can choose from.

CONTENT STANDARD: At the end of the lesson, the learners demonstrates understanding of dance in
optimizing one’s health; as requisite for physical activity assessment performance, and as a career
opportunity.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learners shall be able to leads dance events with proficiency and
confidence resulting in independent pursuit and in influencing others
Positively.

CONCEPT: HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling
life.

Wellness matters because everything we do and every emotion we feel relates to our well-being. In turn,
our well-being directly affects our actions and emotions.

 Physical wellness encompasses a variety of healthy behaviors including adequate exercise,


proper nutrition and abstaining from harmful habits
 It means learning about and identifying symptoms of disease, getting regular medical
checkups, and protecting yourself from injuries and harm.
 Tips:
 Exercise daily
 Get adequate rest
 Use face masks, helmets, and other protective equipment
 Learn to recognize early signs of illness
 Eat a variety of healthy foods
 Control your meal portions
 Stop smoking and protect yourself against second-hand smoke

Emotional

 Being emotionally well is typically defined as possessing the ability to feel and express
human emotions such as happiness, sadness and anger.
 It means having the ability to love and be loved and achieving a sense of fulfillment in life.
 Tips:
 Tune-in to your thoughts and feelings
 Cultivate an optimistic attitude
 Seek and provide support
 Learn time management skills
 Practice stress management techniques
 Accept and forgive yourself

Intellectual Wellness

 The intellectual dimension encourages creative, stimulating mental activities.


 Our minds need to be continually inspired and exercised just as our bodies do.
 Keeping up-to-date on current events and participating in activities that arouse our minds are
also important.

 Take a course or workshop
 Learn a foreign language
 Seek out people who challenge you intellectually
 Read
 Learn to appreciate art

Environmental Wellness

 Environmental wellness is an awareness of the unstable state of the earth and the effects
of your daily habits on the physical environment.

 It consists of maintaining a way of life that maximizes harmony with the earth and
minimizes harm to the environment. It includes being involved in socially responsible
activities to protect the environment.

 Renew your relationship with the earth

PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST AT HOME

Objectives
To determine the level of fitness of students.
To identify strength and weaknesses for development and improvement
To provide baseline data for selection of physical activities for enhancement and skill
performance.
To gather data for the development of norms and standards.
To motivate, guide and counsel students in selecting sports for competition and lifetime
participation.

Prepare the following testing paraphernalia:

During Testing
 Body composition - tape measure, weighing scale
 Flexibility - tape measure
 Cardiovascular Endurance - stopwatch, step box/stairs
 Muscular Strength - mat
 Speed - stopwatch
 Power - meter stick/tape measure
 Agility - tape measure, masking tape/chalk
 Reaction Time - plastic ruler (12 inches)
 Coordination - Sipa, any similar local materials weighing 4gms
 Balance - stopwatch

Observe the following to prior actual day of testing:


The testing stations should be safe and free from obstructions.
With the guidance of the teachers or guardians, allow students to go through the various test
with minimal effort exerted to familiarize themselves with testing procedures.
The test requiring cardio - vascular endurance and those other tests which involve the same
muscle groups should not be taken in succession.
Let the tester record the scores while the student keeps the result of his own
performance in the score card.
The students should be grouped together and in pairs (buddy system with a
sibling/parent).
The students should wear appropriate clothing: t-shirt, jogging pants, rubber
shoes or any suitable sports attire.
