PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE PAPER
1. INTRODUCTION
A Professional Practice Paper (PPP) is an extended essay or report of a practical project that
describes in detail about the project that has been undertaken by a CIFP Part III candidate (“The
Candidate”) to bring out the experience, competency and lessons that he or she has learned. The
candidate must clearly demonstrate the experience and competency that he has acquired and is
able to draw lessons from such experience.
2. OBJECTIVES OF THE PPP
The objectives of introducing PPP is to allow CIFP candidates who have completed Part I of the
CIFP programme and has worked in a financial services industry for a minimum of five years
2.1 to write an essay that describes in detail his or her experience in a particular subject
area which is relevant to the financial services industry at the same time
demonstrating skills that he has acquired and the lessons he has drawn from such
experience;
2.2 to exempt the candidate from having to undergo an internship programme of six
months in a financial or related institution as a fulfillment of the CIFP Part III; and
2.3 to allow such candidates to commence writing the PPP immediately after
completing Part I of CIFP instead of having to complete Part II of CIFP; and
2.4 to reduce the total duration of the programme in order to be an attractive and
competitive professional qualification.
3. REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY TO WRITE THE PPP
The candidate must fulfill the following requirements before being allowed to write a PPP:
3.1 The candidate must have completed Part I of CIFP programme; and
3.2 The candidate must have had at least five years of working experience in the financial
services industry
4. APPLICATION FOR EXEMPTION FROM ARTICLESHIP
4.1 If the candidate has fulfilled the above requirements, he/she need to apply for
exemption on the required Exemption Form available from the CIFP Programme
Officer, along with the required supporting documents.
4.2 The application will be reviewed by the CIFP Programme Officer and recommended
by the CIFP Head. The final approval / rejection decision will be made by Chairman of
Exemption Committee.

4.3 If the application for exemption is approved by the Exemption Committee, the
candidate can proceed to register for Part III of CIFP.
4.4 The CIFP Department will allocate a supervisor for the candidate after discussion with
the Faculty Members.
4.5 Thereafter the candidate will discuss the proposal with the supervisor and commence
writing the PPP.
4.6 The candidate need not complete the Part II of CIFP in order to commence writing
the PPP.
5. AREA OF SUBJECT MATTER
The candidate can choose any subject related to the financial services industry which includes,
inter alia, banking, takaful, capital and money market, treasury management, auditing, corporate
finance, underwriting in takaful, project appraisals, product development, fiscal policies, wealth
planning and management issues, accounting issues, legal or shariah issues, etc.
6. LENGTH OF THE PAPER
The Professional Practice Paper must be between 5,000 to 7,500 words or about 20 to 30 pages
of A4 double spacing.
7. APPROVAL OF THE PROPOSAL
The proposal of the PPP in terms of topic, area to be covered, the problems or issues to be raised
and the experience and competency to be extracted must be approved by INCEIF. Specifically,
INCEIF will be appointing an academician from among the Faculty to supervise the candidate. If
need be, an appropriate personnel from the institution the candidate is writing about will also be
selected to co‐supervise the candidate. The candidate will not start writing without getting a
formal approval from the supervisor and co‐supervisor, if appropriate.
8. DURATION OF THE EXERCISE
The candidate is given six months to complete the write up from the time he or she registers
with INCEIF to undertake the PPP
9. EVALUATION
The candidate may be required to make a formal presentation of the PPP to the supervisor and
co‐supervisor (if applicable). The supervisor may invite others to attend the presentation.
10. RESULT OF THE PPP
The candidate will be awarded any of the following grades:

10.2 FAIL
