OIC-RD Rocafort challenges teachers to upgrade

to “Education 4.0”
Carlito D. Rocafort, now OIC-Regional
Director of DepEd CALABARZON, stressed
that the level of basic education of today’s
generation should be levelled up to 4.0, in
which students and teachers should be
equipped with the use of technology and
gadgets to make learning more accessible.
Rocafort explained that if there is
industry 4.0 where machines and robots
are to be used in our industry more likely
in agriculture, therefore, there must be
evolution in our education.
“If they are talking of industrial 4.0,
there must be DepEd 4.0, Regional
Director 4.0, Superintendents 4.0,
Principal 4.0, Teachers 4.0 and Students
4.0. At mas dapat nating pagtuunan ng
pansin ang Education 4.0,” Rocafort said.
He also emphasized that education
should keep up if the industry or the use of
machines undergoes revolution to lessen
people’s burden, and make the job easier
for them, as in the case of Grab and Uber
for transportation, and Cloud, an online
data storage. He went on to explain that
as what started from the type of education
1.0 where everything is dictated and
learning is very limited, nowadays, the 4.0
level of learning is everywhere with the
help of technology and with the latest use
of gadgets.
“We have to synchronize our
Education 4.0 to Industry 4.0,” the OIC-RD
said.
He exemplified the schools in Lipa
City which require students to buy tablets
if they passed the exam and consequently,
the books and other sources of
information they need in their studies can
be made accessible as these are uploaded
into their gadgets.
“The students need to be trained,
not taught. Dapat sila ay ma-train ng
competencies, that’s why the 21st century
learners, lalo na sa teaching-learning
process, mas malaki ang performance
tasks, and consequently, they need to be
guided to develop their skills,” Rocafort
reasoned.
He added that students need to be
prepared for the next industrial revolution

BonPen teachers convene for educational research

Over 3,000 teachers from the
majority of the towns under the Bondoc
Peninsula District gathered for the
Qu ez on Edu ca to rs R ese a rc h
Convention (QERC) at the Southern
Quezon Convention Center, Gumaca on
March 18.
The participants of the said event
w e r e f r o m th e s ou th e rn m os t
municipalities of Quezon, namely: San
Francisco (662), Catanauan (629),
Macalelon (253), Mulanay (601),
Pitogo (246), San Narciso (431), and
Agdangan (130), thus reaching a sum
of 3,011 participants for the first day of
the convention.
With the theme, “Humanizing
Basic Education in the Advent Industry
4.0 through Research Initiatives,” the
event aimed to improve the education
landscape through research. It focused
on encouraging teachers to craft their
own researches to improve the
teaching-learning process in order to
increase the level of learners’
performance.
In this line, Dr. Juanito A. Merle
presented his research titled, “The
Challenges Encountered by DepEd
Quezon Schools in the Initial
Implementation of Senior High School
Program: Basis for SHS Program
Adjustments and Policy Formulation for
Enhanced SHS Program
Implementation.”

Anchored with the main goal of
determining the number of out of school
youths who needed to complete basic
education and to acquire the functional
literacy skills for a possible route to
become a productive and responsible
citizen, the Alternative Learning System
(ALS) of the Division of San Pablo City
conducted a massive Literacy Mapping
to survey all out-of-school youths (OSYs)
and adults in all the barangays of the
city.
With 19 dedicated ALS teachers
who conducted the said mapping, over
1117 out- of school- youths and adults
were included in the census which took
place from October 2018 to April 2019.
This undertaking was also in great
support in the attainment of
universalization of the Basic Education
and the objectives of the Education for
All (EFA). It also involved the
CALL OF DUTY. ALS Specialists went out of their way doing the comprehensive mapping for ALS prospect.

DepEd Dasmariñas partners with Grolier for reading
and learning program
Dasmarinas City - Sharing the same
mission of educating the Filipino youth
by promoting the love for reading and
learning, the Department of Education
City Schools Division of Dasmariñas and
Grolier International signed a MOA on its
newest literacy campaign called
"Edutour: Reading and Learning Drive for
the Filipino Youth", May 15.
"One issue that has been a
perpetual problem among educators is
the increasing number of non-readers
and struggling readers not only in the
elementary level but even in the
secondary level," shared Christopher
Diaz, Schools Division Superintendent.
In Dasmariñas alone, there were as
many as 3,500 reported non-readers
and struggling readers in 2017. To
address this concern, the Division
launched a "30-minute reading habit"
program which aimed to develop pupils'
reading skills through story book reading
and appreciation.
A crucial component of the program
is the presence of libraries in schools as

resources and books for pupils and
students. This is where Grolier
International makes its contribution. For
two years, Grolier will visit all public
elementary and secondary schools in
Dasmarinas City to promote its literacy
drive and build book nooks. Aside from
donating books and learning materials,
Grolier will also conduct parent seminars
on multiple intelligence and home
learning. This way, parents are expected
to be more engaged in their children's
education and supportive of their various
talents and interests.
"Grolier has been present in homes
and schools in the Philippines. As we
partner with DepEd, we hope to raise
more awareness among parents and
other school stakeholders on the
importance of acknowledging our
children's multiple intelligence and
supporting them in their chosen
disciplines or tracks in school," said
Brian Maralit, Grolier's General Manager.

Aside from its book donation to
schools, Grolier will also provide
professional development resources and
references to the Division Learning
Resource Center (DLRC) which will be
officially open in July.
