Hello again, I welcome you to this presentation.

My name is michel SAGNO Apprentice Structural and Research Engineer at SIXENSE NECS.

Today, I am going to talk to you about international management and particularly about my professional project abroad.

This presentation is divided into three parts.

First of all, I am going to give you a summary of intercultural management.

Afterwards, I would talk about my international professional project

And finally, I would study a case of failure of international cooperation.

I would like to start with the question of international management.

During the first week we introduced the concept of culture.

The aim of the week was to better recognise the culture in which we grew up and the role models of other cultures,
and also to know our level of cultural sensitivity and intelligence.

We got to know each other and adapted to other cultures.

Then we learned how to work in an intercultural environment and the importance of managing diversity for the success
of projects.

We learned to recognise and manage different working styles, the main challenges in an international team and
intercultural leadership.

We were then introduced to intercultural human resources management. This showed us how cultural differences
interact in a diverse environment.

After that, we learned about international marketing, for example how to adapt a product to a market and a customer.

And finally, we learned how to do intercultural business negotiation.

Different approaches and negotiation styles .

As I said at the beginning of this presentation, I am an apprentice structural and research engineer in the company
SIXENSE NECS, a design office specialising in the analysis, calculation and expertise of civil engineering structures.
My professional goal is to become a structural engineer.

This trade involves studying the strength of buildings and civil engineering structures.
We work on several subjects such as steel constructions and reinforced concrete.

We produce counter-models to validate the consistency and relevance of the calculations and results for construction
companies.

Designing models for non-standard structures, such as stadiums, stadiums, etc.

And study the seismic resistance of nuclear buildings
In France, recruitment for this profession has increased by more than two per cent for more than two years.
Because structural engineers are sought after by local authorities and private companies.
Companies recruiting include EDF, AREVA, ALSTON and the CEA.

Internationally, according to statistics from the Association of Engineers and Scientists of France, sixteen percent of
engineers work abroad.
And the most popular destinations are Canada, the USA and Switzerland. One of the main reasons for this is the salary
and opportunities that these countries offer to the engineer profile.

Among the international companies that might be interested in my profile, I can quote: zagope , bouygues, vinci

Other reasons that attract me to the international market are :

- Personal development
Living in a foreign country and working in a different environment allows you to discover new people and cultures.
- Learning other languages :
I would like to learn another language, to learn another way of thinking
- Going international is an asset for my CV
- Going international provides a global and universal vision of the world.

Going international also means expanding your network of contacts.

Now, I am going to talk to you about international cooperation and particularly about the failure of the Soniford group.
The Soniford group is a French company specialising in several areas of activity
Such as :
- Organisation of reception services
- Airport safety and security
- Service provision and temporary employment in the fashion industry
- Real estate operations

In 2008, the soniford group launched the creation of a subsidiary in Belgium from scratch, with fewer resources and a
French expatriate director.

The project was a total failure, and the subsidiary is closing its doors.

In this situation, the causes of Soniford's failure are linked to the management put in place.

When setting up a business abroad, you should avoid :

- Starting from scratch

- Invest less
- Recruiting an expatriate director

The alternative solutions to avoid this type of failure are :

- buy a local company and keep these customers

- invest a lot of money

-Recruit a local general manager who knows the market.
