Subject: Contemporary Philippine Arts from the Region

Subject Code: Soc. Sci 01

General Description: The subject covers various contemporary arts practices of the region
where the school is located. It aims to provide students with an appreciation of a broad range
of styles in the various disciplines with consideration on their elements and principles, and
engage them to an integrative approach in studying arts. Through this subject, students will
broaden and acquire the necessary creative tools that open opportunities in pursuing their
individual career goals and aspirations.

Learning Module I: Contemporary Arts and its General Characteristic

Learning Competency:

1. Defines contemporary arts in the Philippines.


2. Describes various contemporary art forms and their practices from the various regions.

Specific Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

1. Explain the difference between contemporary arts and modern art in the context of the
Philippines’ various histories, cultures and identities.
2. Define contemporary arts in art historical, cultural and stylistic context.
3. Appreciate value of arts.

1. What comes in your mind first when you hear the word art?
a. Write a brief essay containing your thoughts about arts.
b. Try to define arts according to your own perspective.

1. Choose a region and identify the different work of arts. Showcase it by creating a
promotional clip of the chosen region/place contemporary arts thru video clips.
Make use of different applications.
Instruction:
a. Identify certain regions and make sure to feature the arts in the chosen area.
b. Maximum of 6 minutes and minimum of 3 minutes per video clips.
c. You don’t have to include all arts in the region; I will only require at least 3
forms based on the table. It is your prerogative if you want to include other
forms.
d. I will be the one to assign or identify the members of the group. The group is
comprised of 5 members each.
e. Make sure to pass the output on time. If pass late, there will be a corresponding
deductions of points.
3. Write a 300 word essay about Philippine Contemporary Arts.

1. Explains Filipino artists’ roles and identify their contribution to contemporary arts.
2. Analyzes contemporary art forms based on the elements and principles.

Specific Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

1. Understanding of the significant roles of artists from the regions.


2. Identify the major periods, artists, and artworks of Philippine art history.
3. Define contemporary arts by situating these within Philippine art.

1. How did the local artist, local government unit and various conservation advocate
groups in your region/locality promotes awareness and preservation of arts? How did
they ensure the continuity of these practices or preserve these local arts?
a. Write an essay and present the measures or initiatives undertaken by the LGUs,
local artist and advocate groups in your area to preserve arts in your locality.
b. What are the methods or strategies? For example, various private firms and
universities make a joint venture with Local Government Unit on promoting
awareness by initiating Cultural Mapping program to map out their cultural
resources, developing cultural profiles, and use them to create local inventory of
cultural properties and incorporate them in the local development plans.
c. If there are foundations and/or institution that have the same advocacy in your
area you can cite them as well.

1. Identify the different artist in our country. Using a blank map, locate and plot in the
map the location of the artist.
a. Be creative in your map. You can add picture of the artist and have other details
on the next page.
b. Make use of different application you are acquainted with.
c. The rubrics for checking of output will be given to you online.
d. Make a legend so that it will be easier for you to track the figures.
e. Do not limit your creativity, below is just a mere illustration for you to have a
gist of the activity.
