care programs at the barangay level in the Philippines, it
must be noted that inputs from those familiar with the
locale and the people are important for the successful
prevention of the COVID-19 virus.
Barangay Health Workers provide basic health care
services to the community. They provide basic maternal,
newborn, and child health services; They participate in
community meetings; provide assistance to health center
activities; nutrition education monitoring and feeding;
immunization monitoring; sanitation and hygiene
promotion and education; and disaster relief and
rehabilitation.
Barangay Health Workers are the front-liners in primary
health care at barangay levels. Their role is indispensable
to barangay health and wellness. However, they are
identified as volunteers despite a load of work that is
tasked at them? Are Barangay Health Workers can be
identified as essential workers? Are services provided by
the Barangay Health Workers helped the community? Do
the services affect the rate of COVID-19 positive cases?
INTRODUCTION
People have always been the center of
interaction taking place in society. They communicate and
connect through various means and open communication.
In March 2020, we faced an unexpected challenged. A
pandemic we never knew we could have. The
Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic is the significant
public health crisis of our time and the most massive
threat we have encountered since the Second World War.
Since its appearance in Asia late last year 2019, the virus
has spread to all continents except Antarctica. People are
losing employment and incomes every day, with no way
to tell when normality will return. Countries that are
mostly dependent on tourism have lost a great deal
because of empty hotels, deserted beaches, and halted
tourist attractions.
The National Government of the Philippines
imposed a strict Community Quarantine soon when the
cases started to emerge drastically. It is followed by strict
protocols to ensure public health, wearing a mask when
going outside, and strictly implementing one-meter social
distancing. Furthermore, the Local Government's role has
played a significant role in preventing the virus's spread.
The LGU's stressed the vital role of barangay officials in
preventing the spread of the Pandemic is to strengthen the
implementation of protocols and guidelines at the
community level. Barangay officials have a vast influence
within their communities and will push their constituents
to follow protocols essential to the battle against COVID-
19 strictly. It is also essential to identify the people who
have symptoms and are prone to the virus to prevent the
spreading of the disease, casualties of deaths, and
preserve public health
