When did it start?

As the year 2019 was about to expire, according to the World Health Organization's China, there
were reports that a previously unknown virus behind several pneumonia cases infected the locals
in Wuhan, a city in Eastern China. Several days later, researchers and scientists in China
identified a new virus that had infected dozens of locals and eventually had spread in some parts
of Asia. At the time, scientists claimed no clear and convincing evidence that humans can readily
spread the virus.

On January 30, 2020, with the Philippines being complacent about the pandemic's dangers
continued to open its doors for aliens, the Department of Health (DOH for brevity) reported the
first case of virus infection in the country with a 38-year-old female Chinese national who came
from Wuhan, the center of the pandemic. On March 7, 2020, the first local transmission of
COVID-19 was confirmed. The Philippines now has a record of 269,407 confirmed cases and
4,663 deaths. (World Health Organization's Philippines)

What started as an epidemic, now become a truly global pandemic. According to the World
Health Organization (WHO for brevity), as of September 16, 2020, there have now been over
29,356,292 confirmed cases and 930,260 deaths worldwide.

How did it start?

According to the World Health Organization, the disease seems to have originated from a wet
market in Wuhan City where wild or banned species like cobras, wild boars, raccoon dogs,
armadillos, and other virus-infected animals were sold. It was presumed that the virus was
acquired by the people from infected animals like bats.

However, the search for the source of the virus known as COVID-19 is still undetermined.
According to Wuhan Institute for Virology, the COVID-19's genetic makeup is 96 percent
similar to that of a coronavirus found in bats.
