ITM102 – Case 1

1-12) Identify the problem described in this case study. What management,

organization, and technology factors contributed to this problem?

The management of Deutsche Bank's main problem was because they were not up to date with

the technology at the time. The system could not perform at its best since most information was

being processed manually without taking advantage of information technology. Being at the top

of the world’s financial companies would mean that with so much traffic, doing most things

manually with the possible presence of human errors would create problems very quickly. The

CEOs and the management believed that it was not going to be a great deal to run things the old

fashion way but soon enough they realized that they were mistaken.

1-13) What was the role of information technology at Deutsche Bank? How was IT

related to the bank’s operational efficiency, decision-making capability, and

business strategy?

The role of Information Technology was a big deal for the bank as they lacked the skills to deal

with all the information effectively in the past. IT would help the bank to deal with all sorts of

data gathering and report management and the rest of the information processing efficiently.

They wanted to make sure that they would not run into similar problems with clients and

regulators due to the improper way of managing their data. The goal was to gain the trust of

customers and satisfaction.

1-14) Was Deutsche Bank using technology effectively to pursue its business

strategy? Explain your answer.

Deutsche Back history has shown that there was no technology at use to even pursue any

strategies. They would get fined and receive complaints from all over the world. Some of these

fines included the 7.2 billion penalty in 2008 to resolve U.S regulators complaints and the CFTC

complaints in 2016. Their technology was out of date and they could no longer follow up with

the amount of information that the bank was receiving since storing it was the hardest part for

them.

1-15) What solution for Deutsche Bank was proposed? How effective do you think it

will be? Explain your answer

In February 2015, the bank had a 10-year multi-billion-dollar deal with Hewlett Packard to fix

the IT infrastructure to begin making things right. One of the main focuses of this plan was to

reduce costs in all sorts of ways. Running the information on remote computer centers would

allow for better storing and overall services. Avoiding high-risk relations with customers was

also another change in the system for the bank. I believe that all these changes would see its

results over time but as of now, it is the best and only way to fix Deutsche Bank problems and

get back to being top of the world’s financial banks.
