Q1) What do you say to this woman?
Ans) I would tell her that the best way to handle the situation was telling the truth and I would not
be ready to lie to her potential employer who would live to blame me for giving false information.
I would advise her to tell the truth if I was to be her referee.

Q2) What do you say to an employer who calls you for a reference?
Ans) If the employer called me, I would give the true image of the lady including her strengths
and weaknesses. That would lead to the employer making an informed decision on the best course
of action. I would not lie on any detail relevant to the employer, as an employer myself, if I
wouldn’t recommend this employee to my own company to hire her back then I could not subject
another person to such an employee. It would be a moral obligation to myself to be honest
regarding this lady’s behavior in a professional manner.

Q3) What if the prospective employer was a friend?

Ans) If the prospective employer was a friend, I would tell her the truth and recommend that she
go through anger management counselling or see a therapist to properly deal with her aggression
issues. I would not insight but would be more objective in giving the necessary information to
safeguard my image and the interests of the employer and the former employee.

Q4) Suppose the problem was a theft?

Ans) If the problem was a theft, I would distance myself completely for being a referee. I would
not be willing to recommend her at all as this would now not just be an ethical issue, but also a
legal issue. In this case, I would refrain myself from being a referee for her new employer and I
would also not keep any documents or legal files in which her past actions were mentioned hidden
from her future employer incase of any transfer.
