One of my biggest goals is to enter the medical field and provide help for others. Ever
since I was a child, curiosity for the human body consumed me. The most simplistic things that
would occur such as a cut healing fascinated me. My brain jumped to wondering how and why
things like this happened. I referred to it being like magic, and years later the way the human
body functions is still thought of as something magical. I was quite odd as a child, sometimes
playful but often quiet and observant. I always felt like I saw the world differently as if looking
at it through my own scope. People that know me today would say the same. Whenever talking
about something normal my brain takes over and thinks about it in a complex way and once it’s
started there’s no stopping it. I quickly pull out my phone and do research until satisfied with the
answers found. Besides having a fascination for medicine and the human body, I am known to be
attentive to others. Seeing someone helpless drives me to be at their assistance in any way
possible. When nothing can be done it often brings me down. This was the case when my
grandma had been diagnosed with cancer. She became ill, and with not being able to help, I felt
exasperated. The doctors told us no cure was yet found and we could only hope for the best. She
died a few years later. Having this happen only increased my determination to reach my goal of
being in the medical field, hoping one day I could cure cancer as well as Alzheimers. Going to
Grand Canyon University would help me achieve these goals due to the programs offered. The
program that particularly caught my eye would be the Bachelor in biology with Pre-Med degree.
This program will allow me to further my understanding of the human anatomy and heath care
facility. Taking a class like this will prepare me for the MCAT test that will advance me towards
my career goal. Attending GCU would sharpen my communication and professionalism skills as
well as give me a good insight into scientific studies. While attending GCU I hope to get a
perspective on the health care system of specifically Arizona since my work will most likely
reside in Arizona. This enables me to get familiar with the competitiveness of the medical field
while being able to prepare for it. Other personal factors that contribute to my interest in GCU
are the dorms being spacious compared to other colleges, such as NAU, and the university being
christain based as well as a private and self-funded institution. Not only does GCU assist me in
becoming further educated, but also in making important connections. The type of connections
that can lead me to letters of recommendation, aiding me when applying to medical schools.
Grand Canyon University has one of the best medical programs that would fit my personal needs
and with suggestions from former alumni, I believe it would be my best option to include in my
future plans.
