BASIC CONCEPTS ORAL HYGIENE (ORAL HYGIENE)

A.     Definition 

Oral Hygiene (oral hygiene) is carrying out oral hygiene, tongues of all dirt / food scraps using
gauze or cotton wool moistened with clean water. 

Oral hygiene is an oral treatment with or without the use of antiseptics to meet one of the
personal hygiene needs of the client. In a simple oral hygiene can use clean water, warm and
mature. Oral hygiene can be performed together at the time of the body hygiene care such as
bathing, brushing teeth. 

 
B.      Purpose Oral Hygiene 
1)       In order to keep the mouth clean / odorless 
2)       Prevent infection of the mouth, lips and tongue cracked stomatitis 
3)       Helps stimulate appetite 
4)       Increase endurance 
5)       Carry out personal hygiene 
6)       An attempt treatment 

  C.     Action Procedure Oral (Oral hygiene) 

Handling of the oral cavity treatment (oral hygiene) have a standard action procedures to be


followed from the standard equipment to the work done step procedure. The following is the
procedure for oral care (oral hygiene): 

1)       Equipment 
a)       Pencui oral solution / anti-septic solution (Betadine liquid) 
b)       Tog spatula wrapped with one layer of gauze 
c)       Face towel, bent 
d)      Paper towels / tissues / pengalas 
e)       Glass with cold water / warm 
  
2)       Steps 
a)       Explain the procedure to the patient's family / patient 
b)       Wash your hands 
c)       Place towels / pengalas over bed table and or equipment 
d)      Pull the curtains disekitarv bed d a n close your door. 
e)       Adjust the position of the client 
f)        Location of towels under the patient's face and bent under the patient's chin 
g)       Carefully stretch your upper and lower teeth of patients with spatula keg appropriately but
gently, between the rear molar. Insert if the patient relax, whenever possible. 
h)       Clean the patient's mouth using a spatula barrel that has been soaked in water /
dessert.Clean the surface of the tooth. Rub paltum mouth, lips, cheeks. Brush your tongue but
avoid the gag reflex. Dampen a clean applicator with water and rub the mouth to wash. Repeat as
needed. 
i)         Wash hands after melakuka action. 
j)         Write down the things that are needed (eg, bleeding gums, tongue broken) 

D.     Factors Affecting Oral Hygiene 


1)       Socio-Economic Status 
Someone economic resources affect the type and level of hygiene practices are used. This affects
the ability of the client to provide essential materials such as toothpaste. 
2)       Social Practice 
Social groups associated container can affect a person's personal hygiene practices. During
childhood, children get oral hygiene practices of their parents. 
3)       Knowledge 
Less knowledge can make people reluctant to meet the needs of personal hygiene. Knowledge
about oral hygiene and health implications for influencing the practice of oral
hygiene.Nevertheless, knowledge itself is not enough. Clients should also be motivated to
perform oral hygiene. 
4)       Health Status 
Clients paralysis or have physical restrictions on hand decreased hand strength or skills
necessary to perform oral hygiene. 
5)       Physical Disabilities / Mental Default 
Disabling conditions and mental disorders impede an individual's ability to perform self-care
independently. 
 
E.      Due to not conduct of Oral Hygiene 
1)       The general problem

b)       Periodontal Disease 
Is a disease of the tissues surrounding the teeth, such as inflammation of the periodontal
membrane.

Is transparent and attached to the teeth, especially near the base of the head of the teeth at the
gum margin. 
d)      Halitosis 
A breath, this is a common problem of the oral cavity due to poor oral hygiene, certain foods or
infection process. Proper oral hygiene can eliminate odors unless the cause is a systemic
condition such as liver disease or diabetes. 
e)       Keilosis 
A cracked lip disorders, especially in the corners of the mouth. Deficiency of vitamins, mouth
breathing, and excessive salivation can cause keilosis. 
2)       Other mouth problems 
a)       Stomatitis 
Inflammatory conditions of the mouth due to contact with irritants, vitamin deficiency, infection
by bacteria, viruses or fungi, or the use of chemotherapy drugs. 
b)       Glosisitis 
Tongue inflammation results from infection or injury, such as burns or bite. 
c)       Gingivitis 
Inflammation of the gums is usually due to poor oral hygiene, vitamin deficiency, or diabetes
mellitus. Special oral care is a necessity if the client has this oral problem. Changes in the oral
mucosa associated with easily lead to malnutrition. 
 
F.      Oral Health Assessment 

Oral hygiene is an act or behavior of oral care to meet one of the personal hygiene needs. Where
the person's oral hygiene performed for family or other people are using s tandar pass testing oral
