What I Need to Know

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help
you learn on how to divide decimals and mixed decimals up to 2 decimal places.
The scope of this module permits it to be used in many different learning
situations. The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students.
The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course. But the
order in which you read them can be changed to correspond with the textbook you
are now using.

After going through this module, you are expected to:

1. divide decimals/mixed decimals up to 2 decimal places

What I Know

This activity will test your prior knowledge about our lesson in this module.
Find the quotient.

1. 0.4 14.68 2. 0.5 10.5 3. 0.7 8.61

4. 0.12 8.52 5. 1.62 22.68 6. 2.5 17.5

7. 1.75 7.49 8. 3.5 10.5 9. 2.5 4.60

10. 1.2 32.4

Note: If you answered this activity with 100% correct answer, you may skip
the module. If you answered 50% to 99% correct answers, proceed with the
module.

Lesson Division of Decimals and Mixed
2 Decimals Up to 2 Decimal Places

As we go through this lesson, think of these questions. How do we

divide decimals and mixed decimals? What are the skills needed in order to
do it correctly and properly?

What’s In

Before we go through our next lesson, let me first check your skills by
answering these equations which you have learned from the previous
module.

1. 45 ÷ 1.5 = _________
2. 63 ÷ 2.1 = _________
3. 768 ÷ 0.8 = _________
4. 6.24 ÷ 12 = _________
5. 4.68 ÷ 52 = _________

Notes to the Teacher

The teacher must consider the prerequisite skills needed in the
development of this competency including the schema or
background knowledge which may reinforce learning. This
module will help the learners bridge the gap of learning to attain
mastery of the lesson in its spiral progression.

What’s New

Let us start our new lesson with this particular problem. This will give
you an overview of the whole lesson in this module. Read and
understand it.

Jose received P956.25 in one week. How many hours did he work if
his rate was P42.50 per hour?

Answer the following questions:

1. What is asked in the problem?
2. What are the given facts?
3. What is the operation to be used?
4. How are we going to write the number sentence?
5. What is your final answer?

What is It

Let us solve the problem:

Number Sentence: 956.25 ÷ 42.50 = N

Solution:
To divide a decimal by a whole number, just follow these steps:

Step 1: Change the divisor to a whole number by moving the

decimal point to the rightmost place.
42.50 956.25

Note: The divisor has two decimal places. Move the decimal point two
places to the right to make it a whole number.

Step 2: Move the decimal point in the dividend to as many places

as the decimal point in the divisor is moved.

42.50 956.25

Note: Move the decimal point of the dividend two decimal places to the
right.

3
Step 3: Divide as whole numbers. Insert zeros if needed.

22.5
42.50 956.25.0
-850 0
106 25
85 00
21 25 0
21 25 0

Here’s another example:

Divide 23.8 ÷ 0.8
1. Change the divisor to a whole number by moving the decimal
point to the rightmost place.

0.8 23.8

Note: Move the decimal point of the divisor one

decimal place to the right

2. Move the decimal point in the dividend to as many places as the

decimal point in the divisor is moved.

0.8 23.8
Note: Move the decimal point of the dividend
one decimal place to the right
3. Divide.
