Informal Invitations

Informal invitations are written to relatives, friends and acquaintances for inviting
them to any occasion. They are more personalized than a formal invitation.

Points to Remember:

 These letters are written in first/second person.


 It follows the format of a letter.
 The writer’s address is given in the usual place.
 Subject is not mentioned.
 The salutation is usually “Dear Name”.
 The content is generally written in one paragraph.
 Mention all details like the date, time, venue, occasion, any special function
etc.
 The complimentary close is: “Yours sincerely / faithfully / truly / lovingly”.
 The style and tone are informal.
 Word limit : 50 words

 Format – 1 mark
 Content – 1 mark
 Expression – 1 mark
Sample Question: Write a letter to your friend inviting him on the house
warming-ceremony of your newly constructed house.

 Points to Remember:

 Acknowledge the invitation in first person.


 Use second person for the sender of invitation.
 Mention acceptance/regret.
 Specify the reason in case of refusal.
 Use simple language.
 Do not exceed the word limit (50 words).
