Mr Harbinder sir Mr Nishant sood
Q1 : There are many applications of Graphics. List them. Explain Web and
Windows based applications of Graphics in detail.
Applications of graphics are

 Entertainment
 Computer-aided design/CAD Software
 Scientific visualization
 Training
 Education
 E-commerce
 Computer art
 Paint programs.
 Illustration/design programs /draw programs.
 presentation graphics software
 desktop publishing

Web-Based Applications: it is used by web designs to design a website or logos

Logo: logo is a graphic mark or emblem commonly used by commercial enterprises

organisations

navigation : it is the process monitoring and controlling the movement from 1 place to
another

picture editing : it is used for editing the picture or image .

window based :

folder : it is used for storing the files

Microsoft word
Q2 : Suppose we do some changes in a file. If we want to save the new
edited file with some different file name so that the initial file remains as it
is, which option we will use? Write all steps to do the same.
Ans : If we want to save the new edited file with some different file name so that the initial
file remains as it is, we will use Save As option.

Steps are as follows to Save a file with a different name, location, or format

 Choose File > Save As

 Choose a format from the Format menu.
 Specify a filename and location.
 In the Save As dialog box, select saving options.
 Click Save.

Q3 : Which palette is used for navigating through an image? What are the
steps we should carry out to bring this palette on the screen if it is not on
the screen?
Ans : The palette we used for navigating through an image is Navigator Palette.

The steps which we carry out to bring this palette on the screen are:
 Click on window menu in menu bar.
 Move the mouse pointer over the navigator option and click the left mouse button, the
navigator palette appears on the screen.

Q4 : Many a times, we accidentally make unwanted changes to our files. If

the number of changes is large, rectifying each and every change consumes
a lot of time. To avoid this waste of time and effort, which option we can
use? Write the steps to do the same.
Ans : To avoid the waste of time and effort , the option we can use is Revert.
The steps are as follows :
 Click on file menu in menu bar.
 Move the mouse pointer over the revert command / option and click the left mouse button.
Q5 : What image file formats will Photoshop open or save in? What are the
advantages/disadvantages?

Ans : The various file formats in which we open or save Photoshop Change file-saving
options are:

 Save a file in GIF format

 Save a file in JPEG format

 Save a file in Photoshop EPS format

 Save a file in Photoshop PDF format

 Save a file in PNG format

 Save a file in TIFF format

 Save a file in BMP format

GIF

GIF is the abbreviation for Graphics Interchange Format. The images saved in this format
lose a lot of color information by being reduced to 256 colors (8 bits per pixel). That makes it
not such a good format for photographs and large images but ideal for storing graphics with a
limited number of colors such as clip art, simple drawings, logos, text, diagrams, icons, small
images or pictures in greyscale. The great advantage of this format and what makes it so
loved especially among the internet users is the fact that it supports animation and
transparency. That's why it is still largely used on the World Wide Web to create special
effects and give life to web pages.

JPEG JPEG is probably the most commonly used image format. Its name derives from the name of
the people who developed the JPEG compression technique the Joint Photographic Experts Group.
Common file extensions associated with this format are .jpg, .jpeg. Jpeg is a good format for
photographs because it offers a reasonable compromise between picture size and picture quality.
However, images can lose their quality when repeatedly edited and saved in this format. It is not
recommended for scanned documents or text that's going to be used with OCR software because of
the digital artifacts. After you saved an image as JPEG, you should not open, change and save it as
JPEG again, since it makes the image's quality drop dramatically.

EPS = encapsulated post script... another Adobe thing. Anything that Adobe provides the file format
specification for (http://partners.adobe.com/asn/developer/pdfs/tn/5002.EPSF_Spec.pdf) is likely to
be less flexible than formats like JPEG and GIF.
PDF = Portable document format. This is another Adobe format that is good for text documents with
embedded graphics. If you are distributing reports or pamphlets, this might be a good format, but
don't use it as a "Graphics file format"

PNG

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) was created as a free and better alternative to GIF. This
format supports animation and transparency, too, but is no longer limited to 256 colors. It has
the advantage of truecolor (16 million colors). It can be used for editing photographs, since it
doesn't lose quality through repeated savings like JPEG. However, JPEG is still preferred for
transferring and distributing photos because of the reasonable file size. A disadvantage of
PNG is that some of the Internet browsers do not support this format yet.

TIFF

TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is recognized after the extensions .tif or .tiff. It is
recommended especially for text and black and white images. Though it is not widely
supported by web browsers, it remains the standard format for printing, scanned documents
and Optical Character Recognition, since it doesn't have any of the JPG artifacts. TIFF is a
flexible format that can use a variety of compression types including JPEG and LZW.

BMP

BMP, also called Windows bitmap, is a format specific to the Windows operating system. It
can be used in various Window-based applications but its great disadvantage is the large file
size, since it doesn't use any compression. The 24 bits-per-pixel BMP files are great quality
images but they take a lot of space.

In my experience TIFF is best used when wishing to save an image for further modification -- as
when retouching a photo, or creating digital art -- or simply when wishing to save the most complete
high resolution version of a scanned photo or other image. The files will be large, but that's what CD
recorders are for. If wishing to upload to the web or send by email, create a copy at lower resolution
and/or size in JPG or GIF
