I highly recommend Jordan Shoemaker as a candidate for a teaching credential. In the
seven years that I’ve known Jordan, I’ve watched her grow from a volunteer assisting younger students into a compassionate, kind, and confident lead instructor of her own class. I had the honor of instructing Jordan as my student, where she earned the award for Junior Lifeguard of the Year. This is an honor we give to one student who exemplifies an admirable work ethic, an infectious positive attitude, and a gift for connecting with all students. Jordan has maintained these same qualities we saw in her at age 15 and has continued developing them as a professional. Starting as a seasonal lifeguard, Jordan was one of the only guards we trusted to fill in as a Junior Lifeguard Instructor in her first year. She required very little training and was a favorite of the children and co-instructors alike. Her passion, innovation, and conviction were among the top motivating factors in promoting her to a full-time instructor during her second year. As a new full-time instructor, she mentored and taught her 25-40 student classes with a senior instructor; Jordan quickly proved that she was a natural educator. She inspired all around her with her ability to connect with and motivate her students. Jordan was promoted to lead instructor in only a year and became an Assistant Coordinator of the program a few years later. Her impressive technical skills and her ability to balance many different responsibilities were crucial to her thriving in these positions. As a lead instructor, Jordan taught students and her coworkers how to be the best educator for the children. I believe her ability to teach others how to teach speaks volumes about her abilities. As an Assistant Coordinator, Jordan balanced a day of working hands-on with students and administrating different aspects of the program such as maintaining a website, sending emails, scheduling events, and creating professional photo slideshows for our students’ families to enjoy. One of Jordan’s greatest strengths is her ability to organize and maintain a busy and ever-changing schedule. As a junior lifeguard instructor and coordinator, Jordan took on many extra responsibilities not required for the job because she was passionate about providing her students with the best possible experience. She thrived throughout busy summer days, as she went from coordinator to instructor, to professional lifeguard, back to coordinator. She transitioned seamlessly from role to role, always with a smile on her face. Jordan has a talent and gift for teaching young adults. Her benevolence and unconditional positive regard show through everything she does. As a parent, I would be honored to have Jordan as my children’s teacher. I am proud to recommend her for your credential program.
