The situation that students will have to investigate is how can they as historians use experiences
from the past to change perspectives in the future. The possible solution for this would be that
they would pull event(s) from history, and talk about how through that event a moment of their
lives were impacted. This could include impact within their decision making, how they live their
life, and even their own personal values. The theme for this project would be perspective since
they are looking at the past to determine how it can impact the perspectives of people in the
future, and how it has impacted them individually. Some of the activities that students will be
engaging in would include making a poster as their final project, engaging in group discussions,
making venn diagrams, and research within the area. All of these activities are designed for the
student to be able to have a better understanding of the theme and the driving question within the
project. The poster describes how different events in history have impacted their own lives using
the different methods of impact that they could use. This will be shown throughout the entire
school so other students can start to look back to see how this could be possible within their own
lives. This will help students understand perspectives that are not only different then their own,
but also the fact that they can look back at different events within history and understand them at
a much more personal level. The peer discussion will help the students be able to understand the
content much better with the mini lessons that are presented at the first week of the two week
project to help the students understand the content better because they are learning from their
own peers. The venn diagram is meant to help students understand how the different figures were
similar and different relating to their views so that way they understand how different historical
figures have impacted perspectives of other figures. It could in a way that students could use that
certain content area to find how that content area has affected their own life. For example using
English they could talk about how different books or plays have influenced their perspective, or
the perspectives of others. Also it’s just great for students to be able to understand how they can
reflect on things that have happened in their own lives, and make better connections to help them
in the future. It is a skill that can help them become better adults. The project is very important
for the students for two reasons. The first reason is that it makes learning history more personal
for them. It helps them connect with different contents within history on a much deeper level.
When students are able to connect the content that they are learning within their own lives, they
will be able to retain the information better because it is much more important to them. The
second reason that this is important for the students is that they have better skills at reflecting
about events or things in their own lives. One of the best tools to help improve your life is being
able to reflect on different aspects of your life, and use that reflection to make decisions to help
better yourself in the future. If students have that ability at a younger age, then they will have a
much more successful future. This will help the school environment because students will be
able to improve their schoolwork with the better reflective skills that they can acquire throughout
their project. Being able to learn from their mistakes within the classroom will help them be able
to improve upon their school work. For the community it will help build the future leaders of
tomorrow by giving them a great skill at a much younger age. This will be great to help them
become the best people they can be, and also lead effectively within whatever field that they
decide to go into.
