Social drinking is tolerated in many cultures around the world.

It is accepted as a legitimate

way to celebrate special occasions or just to relax after a hard day at work. Drinking in moderation

tends to be viewed as a harmless activity. It is only those who are habitually intoxicated who get

judged as engaging in dangerous behavior. In reality there is no level of alcohol use that can be

considered completely risk free.

Especially for casual gatherings, serving only wine, beer, and non-alcoholic choices is

perfectly acceptable and may be the preferred approach. Most guests will find a satisfying option,

and for the hostess, a limited alcohol selection simplifies planning and allows them to match

beverage choices to your menu.

Background of the Study

Catering events have been existing throughout the years. The growing population of

people celebrating certain events helped the catering industry to boom. This led to the rise of the

catering industry. Hence, the consumption of alcoholic beverages in certain events rose.

This led to the researcher to conduct the study on what beverage is more preferred during

such occasions. Over the years beers were served in most catering events, as the generation

evolves cocktails was introduced and was served in some events upon request of the client. Today

cocktails and beers are the two most popular alcoholic beverages served in events, thus the

confusion rose, what do the customers prefer in most events a beer or cocktail?

This study was focused only on Nice Catering due to the limited time frame in which the

research shall be conducted. It is likewise made to identify the customers’ perception on serving

alcoholic beverages in certain catering events.

Statement of the Problem

This study focuses on the customer’s preferred alcoholic beverage on certain catering

events.

1. What is the demographic profile of the customers with regards to:

1.2. Gender

1.3. Nationality

1. What is the preferred type of beverage of the customer during catering events of

Kevin De Veyra Catering Servcies?

Objectives of the Study

This study is aimed to evaluate the guests’ preference on alcoholic beverages consumed

during occasions handled by Kevin De Veyra’s Catering Services. Furthermore, it aims:

1. To identify the demographic profile of the respondents including the age, gender

and nationality.

2. To know the preferred alcoholic beverage of customers in certain catering events.

Importance of the Study

It is envisioned that findings from this study may reveal the customers preference on

cocktails or beers in catering events.

This study is intended to help and be useful to the following:

To the Caterers. This study could help the caterers to identify the preference of customers

of choosing cocktails over beer at catering events.

To the Customers. In other hand, this would study could help customers in meeting their

expectations on the beverages that should be served at their occasion.

To Future Researchers: This study could be resourceful to future researchers for them to

get a simple glimpse on the preference of customers in choosing cocktails or beers in catering

events.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The study is made to identify what customers’ prefer in most catering events thus there are

limitations in conducting the study.

In the process of the study a number of respondents will be selected randomly in different

catering events. The subject is to identify what customers prefer, a beer or a cocktail. The

researchers are delimited on the subject of the study, thus they are not allowed to conduct the

study without the approval of the caterer and the event organizer. Hence upon the approval of the

caterer and event organizer, the researchers are not allowed to force the customers to answer the

questionnaires.

The researchers are expected to be knowledgeable of the limitations in conducting the

study because crossing the line in the whole research can destroy the entire study.

Definition of Terms

The following terms have been defined for better understanding about the content of this

study.

Alcoholic beverage. An alcohol beverage is a drink which contains a substantial amount of

psychoactive drug ethanol.

Beer. Beer is an alcoholic beverage produced by the saccharification of starch

fermentation of the resulting sugar. In this study, this will be one type of drink that will be

considered instead of cocktails.

Beverage. A beverage is any potable liquid, especially one other than water, as tea,

coffee, beer, or milk. In this study the beverages that we are using are beer and cocktails.

Brewing. In this study, brewing is the processing of beer by steeping a starch source in

water and fermenting the resulting sweet liquid with yeast.

Caterer. A person employed to obtain and maintain the storage of provisions, especially

food. A person or company hired to provide and serve food, usually for a large group and at a

location separate from where the food is prepared.

Catering Events. A planned public or social occasion, where a licensed and insured

restaurant and/or catering operation will provide food which is prepared, transported, set out and/or

served by the employees.

Cocktail. In this study, cocktails are any beverage that contains three or more ingredients if

at least one of them contains alcohol.

Customer Preference. Customer preference is a marketing term meaning a consumer likes

one thing over another. In this research, we are focusing on the preference of customers over

alcoholic beverages that would be served at catering events.

Kevin De Veyra Catering Services. Nice Catering is a catering service which business

address is at Alangalang, Leyte that provides food, beverages, service, etc., as for a customer’s

event/occasion.

Non-alcoholic beverage. A non-alcoholic beverage is a type of beverage that is alcohol

free.
