The British Empire retains a lot of honor form 1800s throughout the history and many

people have had a sense of nationalist sentiment about it. British Empire enhanced culture,

language and industries to their colonies which is a notable benefit to them. However, all the

above got built on colonization, slave trade and massive deaths of innocent people from the

nations they occupied. Thus, its arguable that British empire like all empires was formed for the

interest of Britain alone, as the advantages to the former colonies are greatly overshadowed by

their negative effect they had upon them.

The British Empire shaped the nations to look as they are today. The British Empire did

have its benefits ranging from enhancing communication, industrial progress that did not exists

in the past in their colonies. A significant group of people are able to speak it as the first

language while others can understand and speak the language conversationally. This can be

traced back as a result of the spread of British Empire thus it played part in uniting nations and

spread of culture among them.

The industrialization brought untold riches into the colonies resulting to increase in

wealth for as banks, coffers and port cities. The industrial age resulted to new products, trading

relationships and commonwealth thus it could be said that the British Empire was beneficial.

Additionally, nation’s benefitted from the infrastructure that the empire left behind as the

colonialist built hospitals, schools, houses and railways like one in Cape Town which benefit

the nations up to date . Consequently, the British Empire brought law and order to their colonies

which is practiced up to date.

However, during the imperialism era a lot of crimes got committed by the British

colonialists who left a negative legacy and impacts to the countries under their occupation. Many

people got killed while protesting against colonization. For instance, the Nazi holocaust is

among the worst event that happened in the history as it led to vast number of deaths. Similarly,

the Bloody Sunday massacre 1905 and Amritsar massacre in 1919 where protestor got killed and

others severely injured by the British colonialist is another worst event in history. The slave

trade business also is a negative event as they were able to run their firms and accumulate lot of

wealth from their industries through free labor and imprisonment of women and children before

the Second World War in a concentrate and poorly maintained camps led to many deaths.

To sum up, the British Empire is a scar on the history of its colonies. As it is seen in the

above section advantages to the former natives are greatly overshadowed by their negative effect

they had upon them. Thus, it should not be something one is proud of.
