Family news

Greetings to all of our amazing Amped4Life crew and supporters!

Seth has just finished his final month in his NCEA Level 2 year at Tauranga Boys
College for Year 12. He has steadily made progress with his grades this year and
we are excited to see what 2021 opens up for him. We just celebrated his 17th
birthday which turned out to be a nice family affair. What made it ever more special
was that he obtained his Leaners license through NZ Blue Light. WELL DONE
SETH.

i
The Blue Light navigator programme is designed to help support young people to
get their drivers licence and is run throughout various Schools including Tauranga
Boys College.
Seth has been playing and refereeing a lot of volleyball these last 2 terms and hopes to carry it on next year. All in all, he has had a great 2020.
Ella has pretty much completed her Yr. 11 at Bethlehem College with her NCEA Level 1 exams coming up. She has achieved the necessary
credits but hopes to pass with endorsement. She is so close. Good effort Ella.
Ella has had some trials this year but in spite of these, has risen to the challenge in all areas of life. She is likewise keen to get involved in some
sporting activities in 2021 and will celebrate her 16th birthday in late December. She is looking forward to getting on a surfboard a bit more
over the summer break and learning new skills.
Karen is still working at Grace Hospital as a health care assistant. She loves the interaction with staff and patients. The Managers are currently
revising a work roster which may give her some more continuity between home and work life. She is relieved that she no longer has to work
a night shift which is good for all of us. I continue to value and appreciate the support and help at home she gives me and our family while I’m
away doing Amped4Life business. I am blessed!

Term 3 & 4

What’s been
Our schedule has slowly started to increase as Amped4Life continues to find
opportunities to raise awareness and teach life skills to our rangatahi, our
communities and within industry

A mixed bag of speaking engagements in schools, community agencies and other

organisations as well as following up with an onslaught of regular paperwork and
administration, fundraising and other chores that need doing. Life has been
troubling for many in our sphere of influence. As such, we continue to be a relevant
happening..
and visible expression of hope in our nation.

DMS Kiwifruit
Amped4Life understand that knowledge and education about drugs are of utmost importance
in reducing the risks in the workplace, to the individual and to the community.
We had a great night speaking to DMS kiwifruit Services. Rachael Trimble, HR Manager asked
me to come and share with approx. 20 plus employees a message which both inspires and
encourages safe practice in the workplace

On and off the job involvement with alcohol or drugs can have adverse effects upon the
workplace, the safety of staff, the well-being of staff families, and the ability to
accomplish the goal of an alcohol and drug free work environment and help minimize the
economic cost to business. We were thrilled to continue to support management, staff
and employees. Thanks Rachael for making this happen again.

IMPAC Tauranga
Impac Tauranga work to support vulnerable Youth and their Families in the Tauranga region.
Pastor Russel Turner invited Amped4Life to come and share with students within IMPAC in
Auckland Schools their youth academy.
Amped4Life has worked with many Auckland schools
Tauranga Youth Academy provides a full secondary academic program for young people
and community organisations again in 2020. Auckland is
excluded from main stream education. A great morning was had and we look forward to
New Zealand’s largest demographic and as such a big coming back again and sharing the message with young Rangatahi.
portion of our time is committed to bringing the message to

Live for More
I was asked to come and share a message with the krew from Live for More.

men and empowers them to turn their lives around. These young men, ranging from
17-25 years old, are caught up in a lifestyle of drugs, alcohol, crime, gangs, prison and
violence.

They often have had very difficult lives and the majority have experienced a
significant amount of trauma. More than half have previously attempted suicide or
been suicidal, and a third have spent time in prison. Tai Wātea, meaning “Waves of
Freedom,” gives the young men the opportunity to re-engage with positive people
and healthy activities, allowing them to see their potential and giving their lives
meaning and purpose.

Amped4Life is delighted to have a part to play in inspiring and challenging these fine
young men about their choices and their future, moving forward. Krista and the team do a
fantastic job in giving hope and purpose with love and respect. Love your work guys

Celebrate Recovery Church

CURATE Tauranga
An invitation was extended from Paul Stanyer, to me to address about 40 plus people in
various stages of recovery from a range of addictions. This is a fantastic work run as a side
ministry within CURATE Church .

Celebrate Recovery is a 12 step recovery program for anyone struggling with hurt,
pain or addiction of any kind and is a safe place to find community and freedom from
the issues that are controlling your life.

It was a powerful 2 hours with many people interacting with questions, comments and
feedback. What a fantastic night and many listeners were challenged and empowered to
make change and implement steps toward recovery for themselves and their whanau.
You rock Paul. LOVE YOUR WORK MATE

Pat Buckley from Amped4Life recently (October 2020) delivered
two highly relevant presentations to both our junior and senior
students at School Paul’s Collegiate. Our school has been privileged
to have had several speakers on such topics in the past. However, “I briefly talked to you in the psychology class at Tauranga Boys College
what makes Pat’s presentations incredibly effective are twofold; and I just want to say how much it meant to me and how inspiring it was to

they are delivered in a highly dynamic (images/tempo), relatable

topics [and education]. I give Pat Buckley my highest Student-Tauranga Boys May 2020
recommendation.
Blair Heaton - School Counsellor

On Wednesday 29th July 2020, Pat Buckley presented to our Y12 cohort. His presentation was informative, raw and real. Pat’s objective is to ‘educate,
equip and empower young people with the tools and skills they need to make healthy and informed choices for life’. By adding in in his personal experience
around Drug use as well as adding in work stories from being an ambulance officer, he grabs the attention of our students and holds onto it for the duration
of the presentation.

When I asked some of the students what they thought, this is what they said “wow, just wow”, and “that was really good”. Discussing the talk with
other teachers at the conclusion they also said “WOW” and went on to say “there were so many take-aways from that, I got quite emotional at one point”
Westlake Girls’ looks forward to continuing the relationship that has been built, by booking in Pat for future presentations. Many Thanks –
Tayla Boyd-TIC of Health-Westlake Girls High School
