Activities and Assessment

1. In what specific ways can you contribute to the attainment of the DepED
mandate in the following areas?

Implementation of policies, plans, programs and projects in:

Formal Basic Education

I can contribute to the attainment of the DepEd mandate in the implementation of

policies, plans, programs and projects in formal basic education through promoting high quality
teaching and ensure their excellence so that recognized and measurable learning outcomes are
achieved by the learners especially in literacy, numeracy and essential life skills.

Alternative Learning System:

As a teacher, I need to engaged actively in the eradication of illiteracy in selected areas and
implement the integrated programs using various modes such as face-to-face, group learning,
family or household approach, individual tutorial and others effectively facilitating learning and
managing learners development through alternative schemes.

2. What can you do as a beginning teacher to:

 promote quality education?

As a beginning teacher, I need to promote quality education and pursuit quality through
curricular reforms including training or teachers’ professional development, development of
modules and teaching materials and close monitoring and assessment of program
implementation, molding students holistically for them to be equipped as an individual and
future professionals for the betterment of the society.

 make education accessible to all?

As a beginning teacher, I need to have an active involvement in the implementation of

School-Based Management program to support the realization of the country’s educational goals
and objectives on basic education as a right access to equity. I have to do home visitation for
those students that are consecutively absent in my class. I have to reach out to them, asking what
are their personal reasons in not attending class, and in cases that students will not go to school
anymore I really have to encourage and motivate not just the student but the parents as well.

3. Answer the following questions based on the readings above:

As a teacher, how do you encourage your students:

 to discover their full potential that may contribute for the betterment of
the society?

As a teacher, I will encourage them by motivating the students to ensure that they overcome their
individual differences and excel academically and holistically through providing a conducive
learning environment, identifying students’ passion, boosting their self esteem, getting the
students involved in many aspects of learning tasks, apply creative teaching techniques and
strategies, motivating students through offering incentives, set goals together, and impose
discipline because a citizen that is well disciplined can make our society
progressive.

 to apply the competencies prescribed in the curriculum?

As a teacher, I encourage my students by helping them develop an engaged relationship with the
content. I will build active learning which includes simulations, experiments, skill-based tasks,
case studies and activities to deliver curriculum that will immerse students in learning to increase
their focus and retention of the curriculum.

 to reflect and evaluate their home- and culture-based values?

As a teacher, I encourage my students by being a model of acceptance and appreciation for

diversified ideas, opinions and learning styles, employing instructional strategies that do not
conflict with values, beliefs or cultural practices and establish a culturally responsive teacher,
student, parent relationship.

Which among your specific roles/functions as a teacher can signify your

responsibility among your students and people in the community?

A teacher is not just a mere teacher itself. A teacher is a paragon of virtues and facilitator of
learning to serve society as a whole, not only on individual communities but in the greater
context as well, since we all know that teachers are the backbone of the educational system. We,
teachers mold students, we help produce professionals who are globally competitive equipped
with good values in establishing a progressive society.

What plans do you have as a teacher to achieve the learner-centered

philosophy?

As a teacher, I have to identify my students’ strengths and weaknesses and use methods that suit
learning styles and will target their specific needs. I need to maximize student engagement
through immersion in personal reflection and activities and employ activities that requires
students to assume a large share of responsibility for conducting inquiries, discovery learning,
collaborative activities and making meaning of what they have learned through self discovery
and group collaboration.

What can you do to better serve the learners in relation to learner-

centered philosophy?

I, as a teacher will include students in planning, implementation and assessment in the teaching-
learning process and experiences, placing students at the center of their own learning and believe
in students’ capacity to lead on his/her learning pace. Thus, incorporating the theory of John
Dewey which is Learning by Doing in teaching-learning process that can be applied in the
learner-centered philosophy. It involves learner in the activities which will make them
understand the concepts and topics discussed. Because I believe that experiences is one of the
best teacher and it will serve as meaningful learning strategy effective in the learning-teaching
process.
How can you foster partnership and extend linkages to your stakeholders?

I can foster partnership and extend linkages to the stakeholders by building a strong relationship
and enhance family and community involvement in the school activities, programs and policy
implementation. Another way is by involving them especially the parents to participate in our
homeroom PTA organization. The organization aims to help the school to progress by creating
projects that can be useful to the students, parents and school itself.

4. Students learn in a child-friendly, gender sensitive, safe, and motivating

environment.

What can you contribute to ensure a child-friendly, gender-sensitive, safe,

and motivating environment?

As a teacher, I will be able to promote a child-friendly environment by providing emotional

support, encourage healthy behaviors and practices, guarantee a clean, safe, secure and joyful
environment, consistent implementation of school policies particularly the Anti-Bullying Law,
positively incorporates the involvement of stakeholders, promote classroom activities and
behaviors that is gender sensitive, and create a learning environment where optimum learning
take place and students stay and become the best out of themselves.

How do you address the uniqueness of each learner?

Learners have different strategies, approaches, and capabilities for learning that are a function of
prior experience and heredity. It means that individual are born with and develop their own
capabilities and talents. In addition, through learning and social acculturation, they have
acquired their own preferences for how they like to learn and the pace at which they learn. As a
teacher, I need to examine their preferences and expand or modify them, if necessary. To cater
individual differences, I should provide variety of learning opportunities for effective learning
such as diversified resources, differentiated activities and make use of a spectrum of
intelligences and multi-sensory experiences to tap the different potential of students.

How do you ensure an enabling and supportive environment for effective

learning to happen?

As a teacher, my classroom should be conducive for learning. The physical facilities are well-
ventilated, organized, clean and safe and there are enough learning materials that can be used
by the students during the teaching and learning process. There should be a parent and
stakeholder’s involvement in the learning process so that effective learning will happen.
What are some ways to develop lifelong-learners?
As a teacher, I need to equip my students to seize learning opportunities
throughout life both to broaden his/her knowledge, skills and attitudes by
providing a quality teaching, facilitating approach and strategies so that he/she
can adapt to a changing, complex and interdependent world.
