Philosophy Statement

Public health plays a major role in society and is the reason for people’s
wellbeing. Because of this, I have been interested in pursuing a career in public health
ever since I was a little kid because I want to be able to improve people’s lives. The
population that I am going to serve will be different food businesses which will provide
safe food for the public to eat. My public health focus will be food technology. My
professional passion for public health and food technology came from my mother. I was
always interested in science when I was younger and knew that I wanted to go into a
field where I would be helping others because that matters to me. By working with my
mother in her business, I am able to pursue my passion for improving the lives of
others.
My passion in work has always revolved around science and the wellbeing of
others. When deciding what I wanted to go into after University, the choices were either
chiropractor or food technology consultant because in both professions I would be able
to help others and their health. My mother has been extremely passionate about her job
her entire life and has exposed me to it as much as possible growing up whether
through telling me about it or allowing me to experience it firsthand following in her
footsteps. Because of this, her passion also became mine. The hard work and love that
she has put into her business has made me want to continue it and help her and others
by working with her. Public health has played a large factor in my decision for my future
as well. Because I had two different pathways in mind after my undergraduate degree,
by majoring in public health it allowed me to have the leisure of deciding later on in my
education. The first level of prevention for any illnesses or injuries involves a healthy
individual. By working as a food technology consultant, I will be able to ensure that the
companies that I work with will be providing safe and healthy food for their customers.
Through this, it will minimize any food-borne illnesses that can be transferred and
protect customers and their health.
I plan to continue to pursue my dream of working to help others for as long as
possible. I will be working towards getting my Master’s in Public Health over the next
two years and then going directly into working. I will work with my mother in her food
technology business as a part time job so that I can fund my professional volleyball
career and once that is done, I will take over her business and continue to work in
bettering the lives of others through what I do. As a food technology consultant, I will be
working towards not only the safety of consumers who are purchasing the food but also
the quality of food they are getting. I will be developing different methods for these
businesses to process, package and preserve their food which will make a drastic
impact on the taste itself and also the quality. I will be doing tests in order to ensure that
all their products are in line with government and industry standards.
